  1. Backcountry Avalanche Warning
    Forest Service Mount Washington Avalanche Center, Gorham NH
    Relayed by National Weather Service Gray ME
    717 AM EDT Sat Mar 23 2024

    The following message is transmitted at the request of the Forest
    Service Mount Washington Avalanche Center, Gorham NH.

    The Mount Washington Avalanche Center in Gorham has issued a
    BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING for the following areas:
    NWS Gray ME - NHZ002 (Coos County)

    * WHAT...A significant winter storm bringing 10 - 20+ inches of
      snow will create very dangerous avalanche conditions today,
      March 23, 2024 through Sunday, March 24, 2024. Steep slopes;
      including but not limited to: Tuckerman Ravine, Huntington
      Ravine, Gulf of Slides, Great Gulf, and Ammonoosuc Ravine are
      areas where dangerous and destructive avalanches are likely.
      These avalanches may be large enough to bury multiple people, do
      significant damage to trees or buildings and will likely run far
      down in paths or to areas that are normally considered safe
      zones. AVOIDING ALL AVALANCHE TERRAIN IS ADVISED.
  2. Weather could be much worse than what it should be tomorrow (low-mid 50s and cloudy with maybe a shower and the annoying wind from the ESE)! ‘18 for me was such a ridiculous run that tomorrow shouldn’t be a big deal. Enjoy it, and good luck! I might even see you out there,
    though I wouldn’t know who you are .

    Although we don't have kids I decided to call our school district superintendent's office to suggest cancelling school.  Up here 125 miles north of Boston the cold is going to be well established by school time.  Anyhow I got the superintendent's secretary.  She thanked me for my concern but the tone in her voice was like, this guy is a nut!  I don't think school systems have any guidance in place for cancelling schools except for snow type events.

    Meanwhile, Boston and Worcester are already closed for tomorrow (Worcester isn’t announced yet, but I know people…).

    Yup - I was just going to post suns coming out in Trumbull.

    Same thing up here in the Worcester area (the sun is trying its best). Nothing like another Orlando morning this summer!
