I remember the day after the storm driving up to Megan's in N Chelmsford...they had maybe 6-7". We got to ASH and it was double that. Big gradient in only like 5-6 miles. There was def a subsidence area between very heavy precip closer to BOS (which was mostly rain that storm) and the heavier snow bands further west.

    Quite frustrating.

Help with that, keeping the marine layer at bay...like a wedge, you mean?

Yeah....but I will also warn you, that Methuen, plays with fire a bit, and likes to be close to/in the exhaust.  That October snowstorm, we got jack....just sat in the exhaust the whole storm..ended with like 5", didn't have to go too far west to get into the good snows.

Dan, that is correct. I always pay close attention to the wind direction. If the wind begins to turn more toward the east I know the CF will soon pass by. If the wind is more to the NE or N I know the CF is going to have a difficult time pushing further to the N and W.

I recall that microburst. And I toured the area after it hit. Some homes had tree limbs all over them while houses 2 doors down had only minor tree damage. In some areas there was almost a funneling affect.

There's a little ridge that runs along and east of Howe St, starting at the loop and heading into New Hampshire that probably helps a bit....after east and south from the it flattens out around the Merrimack River

Yea, I'm about a mile north of the fire station....I'll have to try tripolis.

Coastal front got me in the  last event....made it all the way to Nashua, but that is in Novie on an east wind.

Yeah...its a bit early in the year still...easier time getting through

Yea, I'm right off of Howe st...Hall st.

Scooter told me Methuen was good for storms lol....can't be any worse than Wilmington.

Were you usually on cold side of coastal front?

Most time's yes....It would come just up to Lawrence and alot of time stall out there and eventually back down.  Not all the time, but alot of the time it had a hard time pushing through.

It's a decent spot, as I said not great for t-storms, although a microburst went through just north of the fire station a couple of years ago.  Always a good spot for wind, if you are into that.

If you like cannoli's, tripoli's are fantastic.

    Yea...north of the loop.

I was just north of the loop on Howe st, diagonal from Tripolis for 9 years.

You can go back and see how I did over the last few years since I updated the table....its not a bad spot...sucks for thunderstorms, did well in most snow storms.

    ...SUMMARY...
A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SURVEY TEAM LOOKED FIRST-HAND AT
DAMAGE THAT OCCURRED LATE THIS MORNING IN SAUGUS, MASSACHUSETTS.
THEY DETERMINED THAT A MICROBURST, OR STRAIGHT-LINE WINDS, WAS
THE CAUSE OF DOWNED TREES AND TREE LIMBS, A FEW OF WHICH FELL
AGAINST HOMES. THE DAMAGE WAS NOT THE RESULT OF A TORNADO.

ALTHOUGH TREES, TREE LIMBS, AND SOME WIRES WERE DOWNED ACROSS
MANY PARTS OF SAUGUS, THE MOST CONCENTRATED AREA STRETCHED
FROM THE WESTERN PART OF RIVERSIDE CEMETERY EASTWARD TO BETWEEN
STOCKER PLAYGROUND AND LINCOLN AVENUE. THIS IS APPROXIMATELY
A ONE-MILE LENGTH. THE MAXIMUM WIDTH OF THE MICROBURST WAS
AROUND 250 YARDS. THE ESTIMATED MAXIMUM WIND SPEED WAS
    70 TO 75 MPH.

THE SURVEY TEAM WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE FIRE DEPARTMENT,
SKYWARN AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS, AND LOCAL RESIDENTS FOR
    THEIR HELP.

You're welcome.  Methuen has allowed too many homes to be built. The schools are bursting at the seams because they are so overcrowded. And the traffic in the area has become very much like the traffic in the  Boston area.  Each afternoon and morning Rte 93 and Rte 495 are choked with traffic for hours.

How are the home prices in your area?

They are cheaper then down here at least.  Main reason why we moved North, to get more land and more house for the money.  Yes property taxes are higher but wanted out of here.

    Dan,

Congrats on your move. I'm wishing you and your family all the best in your new home. You picked a good time to leave Methuen. The city is being hit by one scandal after another. And I'm sure there are additional scandals in the pipeline.

Thanks Great Snow...I appreciate that.  That certainly doesn't sound good.  I haven't been too close to the issues in Methuen as of late, but based on your comment I am glad I moved on.  One thing I noticed at least down where I was, was all the houses they have build building in Northern Methuen up on Hampstead street and Howe...just house after house...the traffic was getting unbearable.

    If its 93 it isn't?

What are the odds of hitting 93 in April and needing AC vs highs in the 40s and needing heat?   Probably leans much more to the heat.
