I wish I had the slightest memory of it, my earliest wx memory came a few months later in the Jan 1999 ice storm in DC/MD.

I believe you, I grew up not too far away in Jamaica and I’ve never seen a thunderstorm produce any damage, aside from the September 2010 event which I didn’t actually experience as it occured miles to the north of me.

Usually the severe thunderstorms would hit north of me at places like Garden City or Westbury.

Southwestern Nassau county hasn't seen a true severe thunderstorm since then (at least I don't recall seeing one and I've been tracking every thunderstorm since 2000 on.) There has been strong thunderstorms over the years with with tiny hail but not true severe.

Same here, I was 13 at the time and on a train coming home from the city with my dad. I was in Lynbrook when the storm hit unfortunately I was stuck in a train so I couldn't really tell what was going except for the damage I saw when I got off the train.

I do remember the sky being pitch black and a lot of lightning.

Cell jolted north of me at the last second, I've never seen that before. I thought it would weaken but not miss me completely.

Had heavier rain for about 15 minutes. Received about 0.3 inches of rain for the day.

Rained again for 2 minutes. Hoping those storms that popped up survive here.

The storms look to be weakening before making it to queens. What's causing this?

Just had a 2 minute downpour. How's the models look for Long Island? Southwestern Nassau County missed every storm yesterday.

Last good downpour here was last Tuesday.

Why did the heavier showers heading for long island weaken? This seems to happen more often than not.

Had a 15 minute downpour this morning with a passing thunderstorm. Other than that it's been mostly dry.

Just curious but what mechanism's caused last nights intense thunderstorms? The forecast for my area was only calling for a slight chance of thunderstorms.

Epic lightning storm here. I haven't seen a storm like this in a long time.

Storm missed me to the north. Only a town away.

Last good soaking in my area was on July 27th. Since then most of the pop up storms haven't lasted more than 5 minutes.  The grounds drying out here and I need to water everything. I hope we get a good rain soon.
