I know there are a lot of opinions on this event, but gotta feel bad for those that were excited for it. At best they may get a few hours of driving in. All the fanfare, etc have pretty much been canceled with this mesolow sitting and dumping on the city.

Really impressive with unrelenting big flakes and 37F temperature. It’s trying really hard to stick to grassy areas. Even if this turns into several inches I dont see the roads becoming much of an issue with the temps.

Guess I was wrong about the roads. They are a slushy mess already.

  3. Funny to see the local news alerts backtrack on yesterdays forecast totals. ABC7 Alert: Significant changes to our winter storm forecast! Tune in at 10pm.

Had family trying to reschedule Friday holiday plans after yesterdays headlines. And I’m talking about a 2 mile trip across town. Imagine by then it will be very cold but manageable conditions.

  4. Thanks for everyone's insights - it's been fun following as a lurker.

Question on plumes, and maybe it's user error - the averages in and around Chicago are at ~12". Looking down in central IL/IN where more snow is modeled their averages are the same or less. (ie IKK is about the same as ORD). Is it still too far out to see the full storm totals, or reason for such a large spread still in east-central IL.

LOT released more detailed info on these.  Interestingly, the Dyer/Schererville, IN tornado occurred first (and was unwarned), which means that the tornado warned cell that we were watching that produced the tornado in Crete, IL was not the one that produced in IN.

I was keeping an eye on that one thinking it would go warned and never did. Even had a screenshot trying to figure distance.

I am at the damage area now.  WGN already has a crew out here too.  RC if you're lurking and want a location to pass on, it's near the intersection of Camelot Drive and Knighthood Drive in Dyer.  From what I can tell, it appears to be very localized with trees down/snapped off.

Based on those street names - hope the beloved Meyers Castle is safe….

I thought we had multiple warnings on the evening of Cristobal last year.  Maybe just close by then?

There's a pic on twitter of a low hanging funnel in Dyer from earlier.  Can't tell if it's a tornado.

Do remember lots of sirens, but can’t recall if two warnings. A bit hazy on memories last year and days of sitting around at home.

  8. This couldn’t be more off topic - but wasn’t sure where else to put this.

I’m a frequent lurker and visit 100% on mobile. In the last week or so I’ve started getting incredibly intrusive ads that add a border around the page and make it nearly unusable. Eventually I can X out, but the ad will keep popping up. Anyone else have this issue? Can mods adjust this?

Bad news indeed when a vaccine can be pulled because 0.0000009% of people had a side effect that, from what I can tell, didn’t kill them (I would assume if they died it would be in the article).

I believe one has died and another is still hospitalized. I don’t know the exact figure, but my understanding is that if you narrow it down to just the impacted group (women 18-48), the prevalence is of course much higher although still very rare. Sucks all around though.
