  1. Decided after all the rain we've had flooding my garden and my newly seeded lawn behind it, I decided to run a gutter on the shed roof, Capture the rain water in a barrel and use a pump with Pex tubing to irrigate the garden with still the city water option, This should take care of 85% of the flooding problem back there.

Nice! Looks like a small fortune in shark bite fittings.

  2. Drive home from work just now was interesting to see. Roads were wet, snowfall ended hours ago other than light mood snow.

Pretty much as soon as I got off my exit, the roads were covered and snow picked up.

Just got done shoveling my driveway, looks like an additional 3" feel since 9pm. ... but only here.

My son is heading to mount snow. Can't wait to hear all about it.

  3. It’s weird, we must be getting shadowed.  My coworker says it’s a whiteout in downtown Greenfield.
It's definitely picking up. ... but yeah. Maybe 1.5" of mailbox eating mashed potatoes... lol

I can tell you, the last few true firehose storms, I've been disappointed. The shadow I think is real.

  4. I have no idea happening in my neighborhood. I must be trapped in some weird microclimate. There are reports all around me of 4-5”  of snow, including downtown Greenfield.
Meanwhile I’m 5 miles northwest of town with some elevation and there’s hardly anything here. Maybe 1” of slop.  I must be in some weird shadow or temperature dam.

Definitely less here at home in Bernardston than at work. 33F. I think it's all about the rates. Not nearly as intense here as it was just south of us.

  5. Actually traffic on 91 was moving along pretty good while I was just outside.

Enormous flakes. Wind from the north. Guesstimate 4" down. One of our inbound deliveries got stuck in our lot, according to our logistics supervisor. Lol.

Looking at Albany's radar, I'm wondering when this starts to pivot back south. Looks like it's wound up and moving north across western ct?

  6. 34/29 in Greenfield and light rain. Temp has not budged in hours.  Precipitation is also much lighter than radar would have you believe.
You are not much higher than my location but you are 10 miles further from the CT River which must make a difference.
Rain? Damn.. time to head outside and verify. It was snowing like hell here earlier at Yankee Candle...

  7. Man that's a great squall line. Too bad it's going to dry out

Regional VWP data depicts 50 kt of west-southwesterly flow in the lowest 3 km, which combined with strong/focused forcing for ascent and pockets of conditionally unstable boundary-layer conditions preceding the snow squall, should support its maintenance with eastward extent. The primary limiting factor continues to be somewhat dry low-level conditions, though it appears that the aforementioned factors are generally compensating for this.

Yup. Fizzled big time out this way. Looked great west of Albany. Now? Naso much...

  8.  Scouts is "Be Prepared" and nowadays Cub Scouts is "Do Your Best"   Greenfield is one of the few towns in MA that still have a decent size Scout program.
My son was the last scout in troop 9 northfield. He tried to work with greenfield/ hadley to eagle, he was unable to make it work. Tough to lead other scouts when there aren't any.

So instead of an "eagle project," he basically rebuilt the northfield scouts from the ground up. Recruited a whole pack of cubs and now they're going strong. The troop has been around for like 97 years. He wasn't going to lose it on his watch.

While the Greenfield troop may have the numbers, northfield has the infrastructure. Have you ever seen a scout troop with their own dedicated building? There is so much history upstairs and in the attic.

  9. Should be fun in Quebec this weekend for the winter carnival, if I ever go I'd like to hit a cold snap like we're going to have. A friend of mine went one year with below zero weather, he said they wore ski pants while outside.
Yup. I forget the year it was when I went up there. It was below zero every day. Bundle up and it was fine. Drink plenty of caribou.

I remember watching the car temp drop as we heard north. Gassing up at the border at -27 was definitely an education. Swimming at the hotel's outdoor heated pool was fun at -15. Hair would freeze if above water for more than 2 minutes.

Thought I had a pic, but this is the best I could find...a10da1cae08dc3837fd7dc28fcec1382.jpg

  10. 32.2F -ra/pl
    Total of 1.5” today.
Couldn’t even hit the low end of the forecast snow totals.
The absolute worst part is I have an inch of snow on my driveway, that might not completely wash away.  I guess either go out and clear it now or risk letting it freeze tomorrow night…
I just cleared mine in the rain. It might freeze up momentarily but it'll be better in the end.
