  1. Up at the top or near the reservoir ? My folks live right off ridge rd up there. Nice little weenie spot for snow

Up on top, I have a bunch of cellular trail cams that showed some decent snow cover this morning. All melted now. But yes, Highland Mills seems to frequently be a jackpot area!

  2. This is kinda weird, I know it rained overnight because everything is wet but none of the local stations show anything.

I had a downpour for about 10 mins around 10pm last night, picked up 0.14”. Nothing on radar near me in New Windsor or the whole northeast for that matter! Strange…

My folks live right next to the reservoir on the slope of Schunnemunk and they are telling me they have 14”. Monroe is checking in with a 15 spot also. That  stationary band must of been something special

Definitely a local jackpot. Highland Mills/Monroe area seems to reliably outperform over the years.

0.92 so far. Had  a transformer pop before  in the area during the first round. Lights flashed for a second and the power automatically rerouted.  Lucky me. Timed it right as per driving today. Left Lake George around 10 am before the line ramped up.
    edit. 1.04 now.

Believe it or not, when you hear a pop, it is a fuse blowing on a pole and not a transformer. Also, the momentary interruptions you see are devices on the line that attempt to clear a fault. Generally, a recloser or substation breaker will operate three times before locking out. If a branch falls and causes a fault then falls to the ground, power will be restored automatically. If it remains remains on the line, then the device will lock out and require manual intervention once the repairs have been made.

Yeah I really have no need for severe weather but do need multiple days with significant rain. The pressure coming out of our well is pretty inconsistent, that's when pumps get damaged and to replace ours is well over $3k because of how deep it is

My next door neighbor has had a well driller pounding away for two days now. No water yet. I hope mine holds out, it’s over 500’ deep already.

  6. Surprising to see PM 2.5 at ”1” at the area reporting stations today. I think the lowest I’ve ever seen was 20 or so. Pretty incredible. Bunch of articles online about better air quality around the globe with all the decreased activity due to Coronavirus. Took the day to go for a hike on Schunnemunk Mountain. Got 8 miles in. No Corona up there! Hope everyone is staying healthy.

Tpalm, are you new around here? Welcome.

After my last bitch about getting shafted it started snowing, then it snowed harder and for a pretty long time. I haven't been out but it looks like at least 3" and may be closer to 4.

Thanks @gravitylover! Been poking around since 2010 but don’t post much. Always on here though when winter comes around. Enjoy the snowpack!

  8. Just measured 7” in Cornwall including yesterday’s glacier layer. Tail end of this storm is surprising to the upside, moderate rates with radar showing at least a couple more hours of incoming. Getting nervous with the tree branches though. I lost a small white pine in the front garden, snapped in half. And I have a large Japanese Maple still with leaves on it. I went out with a 20’ pole to knock the snow off the branches. I’m sure there’ll be some damage in the morning.
