Can confirm mostly sleet past hr+ here in Maggie Valley.

Can't recall an afternoon temp below 10. Early 2000s remember it only got to 12 with a few inches snow on the ground.

Got to 12 yesterday morning. Don't expect much for the weekend. Probably a cad and I always have warm south winds inversion when we have cad envents.

About a half inch here in Maggie. Never know about the NWF here. Might be done. Might get more.

Not a fan of heavy wet snow. Cost me $4k 2018 for tree removal. It was fun as a kid. Not so much these days.

He stood there downplaying the threat while he had a probability table on screen that contradicted him. That's when I realized that it's Jason Boyer, laughed, shook my head and turned the TV back to Futurama.

Jason is awesome but he takes a missed snow forecast way too personally! Check his fb. Southern mtn weather is unpredictable.

Really we are due for a significant ice storm. I hate to even say that but it's been several years since we have had one.
Where I'm at we hardly ever gets ice. Even when it's forecasted the south winds will wake me up middle of the night and I know then inversion is happening.

Paste bomb! Get the generator ready
Oh well. No generator. Have a gas wall heater and ordered a phone bank today.

Down to 38 after a high temp of 56 around 4 PM with no clouds. Perfect night to enjoy a fire in the firepit with adult beverages.
Usually in CAD situations Maggie warms up over night with moderate sw winds. This could be a different sit than usual. Wait and see. Cheers

Yeah I mean im not saying we dont get winter weather but im not holding my breath on the arctic air getting here. Also Haywood does not do well in CAD situations. As you said its either rain or snow. But I am very happy with this winter so far and yes we have a couple more months to add onto our totals.
It can happen. I remember mid 80s walking on rafters trying to get a house dried in. Freezing rain for few hrs then the trees started falling. It was like incoming fire. We were like 4.5k ft so probably weakened trees from acid rain. There was no wind just frozen precip.

Haven't paid much attention past few days since i realized the cold wasn't getting over the mountains. I'm in Maggie and don't recall any major ice events in 30yrs it's rain or snow here with sleet at times. Haven't measured but probably 12+ so far this winter and still 2+ months left for possible winter wx.

NWS has lowered my total by an inch. I'm at 3k in Maggie Valley but I haven't had much past several yrs with NWF. Had couple inches few weeks ago but nothing like we use to get. You can always travel 2 miles up Soco gap to enjoy.

Got to 63 on the Maggie Valley floor. It'll be hard to drop quick enough for anything meaningful. Above 4k could do ok.

HRRR just cut QPF by half or more for a lot of the SW mtns in NC and GA. Dry slot becoming a problem?
Yeah, that's a big dry slot unless it fills in. Should get some of that currently in Alabama. Not sure where the deformation band willl set up.

That's a big dry slot in Georgia. Y'all think it'll fill in?

Rain is starting to change to snow here. Above 4500 feet the mountains are white in Haywood.
Not much in Maggie proper , but the mountains are really getting white.

Hey, congrats to all that got some! To those that didn't, you never know. Still time

Yes I was thinking the same thing. As you mentioned, only saving grace is if we get some good wind blowing through here. I think that batch in some form makes it across the mtns too so that will add to it as well. Wouldn’t be too concerned if temps were only going to be around 30 but NWS says 22.
Yeah, no winds here. It'll be a Kerrigan / Harding special in the morning!

Looks like dry slot in the morning. Dependent on the comma head wrap around.
