Don't onshore winds tend to push milder surface ocean temps closer to the coast?

Yup, and the opposite for offshore winds. I remember we had a stretch of a couple weeks in the middle of summer with a west wind. Water temps dropped down into the mid 50s when typically it should be around 72-74. The water was so clear, it was like the Carribean

Near record late April temperature drop from Wednesday into Thursday for a little over 12 hours. Highs Wednesday afternoon in the mid 60s to around 70°. Then temperatures falling as much as 35° into the 30s by Thursday morning. The usual colder spots could see a freeze or even hard freeze the further north and west you go into the interior Northeast.

Definitely possible if we trend drier. Also tend to be a little warmer than guidance once the sun's out.

Nightfall, especially by me, the sugar sand loves to radiate off throughout the night. Could see mid 20s. Good shot at a 50 degrees temperature change.

  3. Started off at 27. Radiational cooling doing its thing in the Pine Barrens. Probably get to around 60 before the inevitable sea breeze pushes in. Good to see the sun out again

  4. Bummer for yesterday. I had a family friend offer me a place to stay at their property in Maine, but luck would have it that I developed a sinus infection coupled with bronchitis on Sunday. The medication makes me feel drowsy, so there was no way I was going to drive nine hours by myself. To add insult to injury, cloud cover spoiled the chance to see the crescent sun here at home. I'll have to wait another 21 years to watch it with my family in Florida—provided it's not submerged by then.

On a positive note, today is looking gorgeous.  Widespread 70s, somewhere inland will hit 80. afternoon sea breeze could dampen the enjoyment at the beaches, but I'm planning to soak up some much-needed vitamin D.

Gonna go from talking about enhanced fire danger Thursday (it could be a red flag day perhaps over central and southern Jersey) to flood potential in 24 hours.

This is also worth monitoring. The somewhat positive aspect is that the winds are expected to be most powerful immediately following the frontal passage overnight on Wednesday/Thursday. It will remain pretty at daybreak, but the wind should diminish somewhat by the afternoon when the relative humidity begins to decrease significantly."

Well, maybe they do better with cloud cover forecasts?  Do you have any advance thoughts on what the cloud coverage might be like for Syracuse on April 8th for the total solar eclipse, Chris?

They can't even get the cloud cover right for the current day sometimes. Could be forecast with 99% sun and all it takes is one cloud to completely ruin the experience. Planning on hitting the northern ADKs that Sunday, camping over, then hiking up Lyon Mountain

  7. Winds decoupled last night, and managed to drop down to 34 degrees. Gonna make a run for the mid-60s today, maybe a little cooler along the shore, but WNW flow should prevent the marine layer from blowing in

Balsam Lake Mountain from yesterday. Was expecting 5-8" up top (3723 FT) but instead was surprised with about 0.75" of freezing rain and an inch of snow on top.

Wind was no joke. Throughout the whole hike could hear branches snapping with each gust. This picture at the fire tower I am crouched down holding on for dear life. Impossible to stand straight up. Probably 50-60 mph gusts.
