I estimate 2.5”-3” in N. Syosset. Parents in Atlantic beach on South shore have about 6”. It’s usually the opposite.

The radar trajectory doesn’t seem great. Seems like most would south of the nyc / LI area.

As you can tell I’m not optimistic about this at all. Hopefully I’m wrong.
It’s snowing albeit flurries on north shore of LI. Syosset and Melville it’s been flurrying for past hour. Is it doing nothing on south shore?

A few flurries here in Syosset. Hoping to be surprised. But don’t expect much.

Snow started on north shore here in Syosset area.

Ugh, wish I was at home. Stations around me are 32-33 so what’s falling is sticking even if slowly. 37 in Long Beach and rain.
I can confirm it’s sticking in north Syosset area. Don’t know the temp. But have close to an inch. It’s been snowing for about three hours. No mix.

Started snowing lightly here in northeast Nassau in last 10-15 minutes. Hope for a surprise.

Just rain here with a few wet flakes mixed in. For those getting snow, don’t expect much to stick if temps are above 32.
You’ll prob be all snow shortly. Was similar here in NE Nassau and then switched to all snow around noon.

12z Rgem / Ggem had 1-2” for LI / NYC and south for wed night and thur am.

Nassau County ended doing very well after a slow start
Yes. Most of that fell after 1:30.

8” in syosset. More than just a pack refresher.
-
close to 6” here in NE Nassau near syosset. Most of which has fallen since 1pm. Had about 2” around then.

The temp difference between coast and interior a bit more extreme than expected, usually better temp gradient is more intense precip. Just hope it’s not mixing on coast but if it’s already flurries then nyc/LI should be fine.
Car temp says 35 and I’m looking over cold spring harbor on the water. Should be all snow here. May need to wait for it to stick on roads until it’s heavier.

Flurries on north shore of LI. Nassau / Suffolk border.

when was the last 6-10" storm where it wasn't a result of being on the fringe of massive amounts?
Remember one from Jan ‘17. May have been a fringe nor’easter but was general 5-10 with more east end LI and less toward city.

Speaking for northshore of LI in Nassau. Still not a hint of any sleet. And not sure we will dry slot. Getting good snows still now. Somewhere around 12” here as of a little before 2pm.

Just measured 5” on average here. Another good burst coming down now.
Same here on amounts. Not far from you. Near syosset / oyster bay. It’s coming down now good clip. Shoveled the walk way. Very powdery snow.

Anyone in Nassau have anything falling? Taking forever here in NE part of the county

Precip shield looks less organized than last night. Maybe expected. Any one have an idea of start time today for western LI. Around early evening?
-
Scheduled for some minor elective surgery midday Monday in Manhattan and driving in from LI. Seems like it would be a good bet to cancel even with delayed start some models show. Seen like a valid conclusion to others?

Oddly enough we'll likely see much more than with the Dec storm but NWS is keeping forecast amounts low.
The day before the December storm they had widespread 12-20" amounts in the forecast now it's more like 6-12"
Seems like they tend to do this when they’ve gotten burned with a forecast. Recency bias.

NYC has already had 10.5 inches this season and to still be at least normal for the season on January 31 they only need 1 light to moderate event of a few inches....if they can't get at least that in the next 24 days something is wrong
I think he meant normal for the winter close to 30” by end of Jan
