If the Euro showed it, DT would hug it until it passed out from asphyxiation.
he argues southern winds will flow into mid atlantic and basically block advance of cold front. Other models key in on this... gfs on an island. Same issue 1/20.

At this point I don’t even care but I will say that my experience in this situation is the cold air is always slower to progress than modeled.
exactly this!

the advertised temp drop on the gfs from 6z to 12z is suspect. even if the surface temps drop like that, the mid levels are not ideal. i think we want that trailing wave friday to take its sweet time getting itself together for this to work out.
it failed with the advertised temp drop on the 20th

THE ICON SUCKS
icon outcome is what I am expecting! I suspect the gfs is doing an awful job of handling cold front.

What is record for most freezing rain in dc metro?

Did the gfs not fail miserably with the cold front on the 21st? Or whatever day schools closed due to rain? Similiar set up, no? Euro was all over that event.

ICON took a step back if anyone cares about it. Cold press a little slower, track a little more inland
gfs will show all rain in 30 min. Nail in the coffin for this one.

Been busy with work so haven't really tracked this week's event but LWX seemed to hedge against the GFS solution in their forecast discussion - but left the door open with the caveat...
Models have in the past been too quick with the cold air in an anafrontal situation but every event isn`t the same.
certaintly showed that w the debacle a few weeks ago.

Looking forward to the "Ha, I was just effing with you" GFS run tonight that goes back to showing all rain. Will wash the salt away at least!
-
GFS has significant ice for areas NW starting around 6am. Legit or no? Dont think freezing rain will be an issue due to surface temps. Sleet that melts on contact?

Man great HH gfs, an absolute parade of short waves. Something would hit eventually.
negative. Will be rain or low will be too far off shore and precip will miss us entirely
