Going to Mexico beach is possibly the dumbest thing someone can do right now. They could end up with cat 4 sustained winds and a 10+ foot surge.
completely ridiculous.
no one is going to see sustained cat 4 conditions.

Would any chaser drive into an ef3 tornado? That is essentially what they are doing here, adding it will last for hours, and surge.
It is is extremely irresponsible.
plenty of places to safely ride out this storm for chasers. weather channel crew with mike betties is being over dramatic

we need some good south florida action
these bull**** NGOM storms are happening far too often.

it's disappointing to see people looting during this disaster

Oh wow snow in the mountains, crazy.
13 minutes ago, cptcatz said:Wow 1-2 feet of snow in the interior mountains of West Virginia and Kentucky. Must have been traumatizing for the tens of people who live there to deal with snow amounts which they are perfectly accustomed to.
5 people died as a result of the snow. i wonder if the family members of those who lost their lives were traumatized.
you are downplaying sandy

Seems like there is a ways to go.. Some hi res models drop 40-50 inches of QPF
but sandy was just a more well rounded storm
in addition to the rainfall totals and surge we saw 3 feet of snow in west virginia. florence isn't going to do that

compared to sandy this storm is a bust

Little egg harbor, NJ
do you have a link to this?

Just now, hazwoper said:
It had 70 kt (80 mph) sustained when it made landfall in Brigantine, but it was no longer a hurricane at that point. wind speed is not the only factor
i'm just curious about the actual observation of 77mph sustained. i know there were gusts above hurricane force but i was not aware of any one location actually recording true hurricane conditions.

Wrong. Sustained winds of 77 in NJ, and gusts to 96 on LI.
where is that 77mph sustained from?
-
sandy wasn't even a tropical system.
no one that was in nyc/jersey survived a cat 1 hurricane that day.
-
the inland surge up the rivers and the extensive wind field make this a better Carolina storm than usual

give me 110kts at Emerald Isle
2 hours ago, Hoosier said:I wonder if we get a full blown landfall around Emerald Isle and not this hang just offshore thing. Florence is tracking a bit right today (and at decent speed) and would have to bend west more significantly to put the landfall down around ILM.
hi there
1 hour ago, Stebo said:I didn't say anything about credientials, but you are as uneducated about tropical meteorology as you can get. Lets put it this way, Sandy was a cat 1 when it made landfall into NJ, I guess it was no big deal because it was a cat 1 right?
lol @ "credientials"
