Here's one from 1991. I remember the screen before this, where it was a blue screen with white text, I think that's what you're talking about. When they updated to this style, with the animations of rain and all, I was blown away, and it's the style I remember the most:
Yeah I remember that, but not the one I really meant. The one I was thinking of was just a US Map with color blobs for the precip types. They would scroll through the days. It was like a pre-cursor to model watching.

I do miss the days before we knew we had no chance a month out. Always was fun watching TWC classic local forecasts waiting to see snowflakes on the weekly graphic
The 7 Day Business Planner on TWC was the longest range you could see back in the 80's. Catching that after school each day was a priority. I remember watching the trends from rain/snow to mix to snow. You knew it was on then. Of course, sometimes even then, it went the other way too.

Getting a few, and I mean few, flakes. It's not much, but more than I've seen in 2 years.

Unless they start a NW Piedmont thread, I'm going to hang here.
We need a storm with a NE wind cold feed. I don't know much, but I know that.

I shouldn't have complained about missing the rain over the last couple of weeks. We got pounded with probably the worst storm of the summer. Lightening took out a TV and some outdoor lights. Oh well, at least it wasn't worse than that.

OK I'm a casual lurker to AmericanWx, but - what am I missing here? Why is there not a huge discussion about Idalia going on?
Yeah you would think there would be a thread in the SE Forum, but try the one in Tropical HQ if you haven't already.

29 and icy here
Part of the driveway which is shaded is icy; rest looks wet. Trees with a solid glaze.
-
Light flurries. Don't expect much here, but good luck further east.

Right at 6 inches of snow and sleet. Might get a little more if that band over the upstate holds together. Very light snow at the moment.

Snow again, but tiny flakes so far.
-
Back and forth between lighter sleet, then heavy sleet. Looks like some freezing drizzle mixed in too, and cold and windy for sure.

4-5 inches and that's after sleet on top. Moderate sleet now.

Precip lightened up and is now mostly sleet
-
Pouring now, if there is any sleet mixed in, it's not much. Mostly, if not, all snow.

Snow - about 2 inches
21 degrees

LoL. I was 22 the last time the Bengals had a playoff win. 31 years ago. Oddly enough that might have been the year we had the snowmaggedon snowball fight in the quad at NC State. Probably the last kick butt snowfall Raleigh has seen.
I'll go fire up the grill and crack open the beer fridge and things will get better. Time for some brisket and ribs!
I seem to recall a huge snowball fight in the quad at the same time - small world.

Not in a good spot for this one. We had a pretty nice rain - snow mix around 9am and then flurries right before the sun popped out. Areas further east and even south seemed to do better. Then again, after the last week of warmth seeing anything is a win.
-
Visible ice glaze this morning, most of the year by far. But less than a degree below freezing so I would think we can avoid major issues.
I guess there could be some slick spots on roads though.

Local weather station was as low as 33.3 about 2 hrs ago, now up to 35.8 showing a DP of 27. It has clouded up in that same time frame.

So far this year, freezing rain really hasn't materialized along the I40 corridor southwest of the Triad. I'm a little skeptical because of that, but sure looks like Statesville to Hickory to back toward the foothills and mountains might be in trouble this time. Hoping for sleet...

Just went on a Jeb Walk with my trusty canine. Everything covered now, even the road, especially the shaded areas. 31.6
Still not a big snow, but beautiful out. We'll take it.

Moderate snow now 32.4. Starting to get on roads a little. Grass is white.
Just a slight NE breeze, not much but something lacking last week.
-
32.7 and pretty good snow. Sticking on everything but the roads and driveway.

Just had heavy rain and small hail. Had some small hail Friday too and Saturday was about a washout of a day.
The stormy week looks to continue if the forecast is right.
