Had to drive from NE Durham down to work right near RDU for a power outage related emergency (off Page rd). Do not recommend. Traffic lights were at least working all the way there, but rotten visibility.

Back home now, flakes still falling but it sounds like rain in there too.

If there is one, the NAM will nail it. Back in 14, the Euro was spitting out 20” totals , and every one was giddy, then about 12 hours out, people said, watch out, the NAM is showing a warm nose, and there will be a lot of sleet! I got 1” of sleet

Hmm. In another thread I asked what time our hopes usually get crushed and you said “yesterday”.

On topic: Durham county schools closed tomorrow per WRAL. Wake starts 3 hours late.

    Which is the better experience?

Totally depends on what type of people you feel more comfortable around. Which will lead me into regional and demographic stereotypes, and no good will come of that. :)

I preferred the Escape out of Manhattan over the Breakaway out of NOLA in all aspects (ship, port, fellow passengers). But it seems like I got lucky and my commute from LGA to the port was pretty painless, so that helped.

I must be pretty low than. Because I love cruising. And it is still the best value in a vacation you can get.

Also depends on your departure port. A cruise out of Manhattan (even on a mainstream line like NCL) gets you a different crowd than, say, NOLA. (And yes I’ve done both, recently.)

We definitely do better than raleigh area.

Living in Durham, working in RTP and having coworkers from as far as Holly Springs made the last snow pretty awkward. Especially with the extra snow on Monday. (Coworkers who got rain don’t want to see pics of your eight inches of fluff in the back yard.)

How much has compacted/washed away for you North Raleigh/Durham folks? Congrats, and stay safe on the roads once the refreezes start. I think the next two mornings will be the most dangerous part of the storm for you guys, and others.

Yards and neighborhood roads still buried in E Durham, but we got snow literally all morning.

Huge flakes here in the Sherron Road area of Durham. It's been snowing now since 0800, and appear to have 1.5" of additional snow on the deck rails.

Hey neighbor. Can confirm. The stuff that got washed away last night, and tire tracks, are filling back in. My hobby weather station in MBY still has us at below freezing.

  8. Having looked more carefully at a map (just moved recently), I guess I'm closer to SE Durham than NE Durham as I posted before, but about five miles north of Southpoint.

It's still snowing here. I'd guess we're at 7-8"? I keep expecting it to change over, but still flakes for the moment.

30.9F according to my hobby-grade weather station.

I live about 1.25 miles from the mall - been pretty quiet here.

Formerly Southpoint here--I have a feeling we've DM'd or something during recent winter storms, your name looks familiar. :) I used to be over off Barbee/54, where all those townhouses have gone up now.

  10. Friends and coworkers in Southpoint say they are out of power, but doing fine north of I-70 in east Durham (I need to update my board location). We got a couple of big gusts and that's been it so far. Well, and 3" of rain today IMBY.
