Made a quick trip to my camp in Potter county to winterize it, 2 to 3" of wet snow up there even on the roads...enough that they were plowing at the higher elevations. My deck and shady areas still had snow when I got home. Currently 19 this morning.

Whoa......

Looking like Halloween evening may be a chilly one for the kids....and adults giving out the treats.

Seems to be a chorus of long range folks calling for cold, snowy NE winter that starts early in their winter outlooks.

Weather Bell tweeted a pattern change is likely mid-October. I see the 540 mb spaghetti contours on the GEFS finally dip below PA starting around the 12th.

Anyways, looks like little chance of sustained fall weather on the horizon.. Seems these "anomalous" ridges are becoming more common place.
Watching the GFS run, Leslie offshore seems to be helping with blocking any eastward flow forcing everything up into Canada to our west. A super torch is coming for early next week, +15 to 20 range on the 850s. I hope this means a swing to an equally opposite extreme when the pattern eventually changes.

Channel 11 had an amateur video of a wall cloud with a funnel trying to come down. It seemed to touch down once during the video. Pretty violent rotation, but hard to tell how close the camera was to it. I think it was in Green County.

Just got word that the accuweather forum is closing at the end of the year.
This is were most of those folks are migrating to: https://wxdisco.com/forums/
Not sure I like being lumped together with everyone from a whole region.

Nice cool down to average but no signs that I can see in the models of any significant cold coming down. That is okay with me...we don't want it too early.

Just a heads up that when the site goes down, especially during an event, the old stomping grounds site is still open.
Just go to personal discussions, and you'll see the Pittsburgh tread.
Cool. Where is that....link?

Rain has ended at my home, storm total is 5.45"

Just checked my CoCoRAHS gauge during a Steeler break:
since 6 AM - 2.32"
total since 6AM Friday - 3.48" as of 2:30PM today
Yard is flooded and I got a leak. The rain is hitting the east side of the house pretty hard which it rarely does so it found a way in somewhere.
My Davis station is way behind, I gotta figure out what's wrong with it. Usually it's a bug or debris stuck in the hole or the tipping cups are dirty.

Time to start up again for Fall/Winter. This late season heat looks to continue into late September. I'm hoping this means we'll have a swing to below normal later this Fall, though all long term maps from NWS show above normal clear through the winter months. Looks like a deluge coming late this weekend and then current GFS has Florence possibly coming into PA late next week. Definitely some active weather to track.

Sad News... Joe Denardo has passed away. One of the best on-air weathermen ever in Pittsburgh. RIP.

I remember watching Joe's forecast as a kid in the 70's as far back as I can remember. I remember him always using the aviation technical jargon, such as cloud ceiling, etc. no other TV weather man did that back then. I was just talking to someone the other day about him reminiscing the old Pittsburgh news people. RIP.

Individual cells look like they are really ramping up in last 30 minutes

Sun coming out should increase severe potential this afternoon.

Steelers are sucking right now so I'm going to rant about PennDOT. The state roads are still crap around here, even major intersections like 19 & 228 with packed snow that turned into glare ice. No signs they were treated. You would think they would put some grit like sand mixed in with calcium chloride on it. We saw a PennDOT truck plowing the berm at this intersection last evening with its wing plow throwing more snow back on the road than he was clearing and not treating behind. Meanwhile Township roads and streets are pretty clear. They plowed well and salted early yesterday so the sun and traffic could bust up the hard pack. The state raised our gasoline tax to the highest in the country and they still can't maintain our roads.

I'm sticking a fork in it. Not even looking at the model runs. Maybe that will change our luck.
I was planning to go up to camp in Potter County next week to see some snow, now a torch and rain storm will probably wash it away before I get there.

Gee Wiz! It's 64 outside at 9:30 PM and climbing with a howling south wind...feels like a June night.
