  1. Only got 0.17" yesterday...better rain so far today, slow soaker but light so far. My immediate area seemed to be constantly missing the heavier downpours. I've never seen cool season grass look so dead brown in my lifetime.
  2. High of 95 on my station today. I had to water the garden twice. I hear folks mentioning that this reminds them of summers past while growing up. Growing up north of Pittsburgh in the 60’s -70’s timeframe we didn’t have A/C until I went off to college. We somehow managed sleeping upstairs with just window screens and a few fans. If it got too hot I remember sleeping outside on the front porch, but very rarely. My recollection was the grass browning during mid-summer dry periods, but not long periods of heat like this.
  3. Maybe a light frost in outlying areas tonight? I don't feel like covering everything so we'll see what happens.
  4. If the models hold up Memorial Day weekend and several days leading up to it look to be our first torch of the year. We will be on the northern side of SE high pressure. It looks like a dry period too...finally. I think it's safe to plant tomatoes this weekend.
  5. A solid freeze this morning with low of 29. I covered up as much as I could last night. I'm hoping our perennials make it. Our hydrangeas already got it last Saturday morning. A reprieve tonight with clouds and precip then probably a few more cold nights especially Friday and Saturday nights.
  6. Friday and Saturday look down right cold...It might not make it out of the 40's. There are signs of this chilly pattern breaking by the 13th with a Bermuda high nosing westward.
  7. We got an inch of snow on the grass and deck in Cranberry. Looking at my weather cam footage most of it fell between 4 and 5 AM. Streets are just wet.
  8. PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT National Weather Service PITTSBURGH PA 121 PM EDT Wed Apr 8 2020 ...TORNADO CONFIRMED NEAR TARENTUM IN ALLEGHENY COUNTY... After further examination of radar data, the National Weather Service has confirmed the occurrence of a tornado last night in the area of Tarentum in Allegheny County, PA.
  9. PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT National Weather Service PITTSBURGH PA 851 AM EDT Wed Apr 8 2020 ...PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT... The Pittsburgh International Airport recored a peak thunderstorm wind gust of 75 mph at 1:06 am this morning. This is the highest thunderstorm wind gust recorded at the airport based on data dating back to 1948.
  10. It's over....trace of snow overnight will probably be the last this year...I'm ready for thunderstorms. LOL
  11. Got close to an inch total snow in Cranberry, currently freezing rain at 30F...coming down at a good clip. Total precip is 0.24" I wasn't paying attention to when it switched over to liquid precip. It was 23F at 4AM
  12. We had a great plan to have comfort food this weekend and watch snow falling. One of those ain’t happening.
  13. I feel a major screwing coming. It's still above freezing the evening before. Warmth is overperformimg.
  14. Steelers are sucking right now so I'm going to rant about PennDOT. The state roads are still crap around here, even major intersections like 19 & 228 with packed snow that turned into glare ice. No signs they were treated. You would think they would put some grit like sand mixed in with calcium chloride on it. We saw a PennDOT truck plowing the berm at this intersection last evening with its wing plow throwing more snow back on the road than he was clearing and not treating behind. Meanwhile Township roads and streets are pretty clear. They plowed well and salted early yesterday so the sun and traffic could bust up the hard pack. The state raised our gasoline tax to the highest in the country and they still can't maintain our roads.
  15. I'm sticking a fork in it. Not even looking at the model runs. Maybe that will change our luck. I was planning to go up to camp in Potter County next week to see some snow, now a torch and rain storm will probably wash it away before I get there.
  16. Gee Wiz! It's 64 outside at 9:30 PM and climbing with a howling south wind...feels like a June night.
