Also radar looks good in E MA again but 2mi visibility at Logan?
And that correct. The radar is actually overstating the snow rates now in a big way.

YEah that looked really weird and the snow intensity didn’t respond by ramping down. So I was suspicious as well.
It did ramp down dramatically around here at that time... perhaps it was an unlucky coincidence, but haven't seen that effect before.

It's a good explanation, but the ground truth says it's not an artifact. Visibility has gone up to over a mile here just west of Boston. It really has petered out already.

Impressive that the NHC is sticking with such high formation probabilities on this with the Euro dismissing it and it looking like its a long way from getting its act together. I would take the under on 90% in five days for sure.

Those Mount Washington obs have been formidable for quite while now...

Reno wind fail, bad readings
The duration did seem mighty suspicious. Plus there was no such anomalous forcing...

From there AFD.
The peak wind of the day so far was at the top of Kirkwood Mountain with a gust of 209 mph. If this observation is verified as accurate, then that could be the new California record high wind! This is an unofficial measurement until it is certified as accurate.
I'm guessing the lift was closed.

If that's accurate, those have to be historic obs even for that elevation.

Euro is a complete and utter abomination of an abortion. I'm not sure Dr. Dews could have engineered a shittier solution from his humidor of a cave given those players on the field. Each of the several SWs spaced perfectly as to avoid interaction with surgical, maniacal precision.
Its doing that inside of 120hrs, so if the EPS looks like shit, this event is in trouble imo...but I guess you could give it until Wed AM, when all players will be ashore.
It's not too bad:

Sounds like its known bias of burying energy in the SW. We EPS.
EPS are skewed to a whiff too (e.g., 0Z, 6Z....)

Snowing very nicely now in Cambridge, visibility under 1/2 mile.

While I haven’t been running the model scores, the FV3 has had tons of fake news cyclones in the day 6+ timeframe. I know it’s day 5 now, but man it’s gone full weenie so many times before. It’s a bit scary to think it takes the place of the current GFS as we know it.
Indeed, but usually those false depictions disappear after a run or two. It has depicted this coastal low for at least 8 runs in a row, with generally increasing intensity. As Tip says, it'll make the bust all the more egregious.
or could it be...?
Nah.

Say what you will about the FV3 (and the disparagement is generally warranted), but it has been eerily steadfast with this...
