One of these days we'll get a 4'+ blizzard. Climate change assisted snow bomb.
Bring it on. I will say the HRRR and some other models did well on the I-78 death band. Albeit not nearly as much snow was modeled but where it set up was fairly accurate.

The crazy thing is we had about 11” here in Hillsborough with almost all falling between about 1 and 5AM

Good ole Hillsborough island. 1.32” and counting

Borderline heavy snow in Hillsborough. Can smell the rain.

Light snow in Hillsborough. Light dusting on neighborhood roads.

I don’t post often but isn’t there already a climate change thread? I work in the environmental field and know a little about the warming and it’s reality but We have pro mets posting great thoughts about model runs and analysis and it’s getting lost in all the banter.

I can vouch for that. We moved inland near Deland, sustained strong winds, 12"+ inches of rain and still pouring.
Sisters house in New Smyrna beach taking on water. Her car is half under water. Parents to the north in Ormond are watching a stormwater pond creep closer to their house. No power. Radar looks very bad. Scary stuff.

We hit 98 here yesterday. 3 years ago today my somewhat accurate weather station hit 100 for what is the only time that I recall. I presume that could be passed on Sunday.
Dry spell has been brutal on plants and lawns. All the lawns are brown and dormant here unless irrigated. The rains of several days completely missed this part of Somerset Cty. I was watching the maps and hoping for rain but we were in a persistent gap with the cells going north and south of us. My raspberries and tomatoes are wilting and I pulled out the sprinkler yesterday evening. I will water other parts of garden this evening.
And now we have voluntary water restrictions on the odd even schedule here. Definitely a dry Somerset County right now.

We got most in last week but this week is the issue. Will probably end up doing maybe 50% of our lawns this week. Even the ones with sprinklers are dried out because they are the most damaged by fertilizers
Have not seen things go this dry imby in well over a decade maybe 2 decades
There was a year in the mid 90s that was brutal? 95/96 maybe?
Yes it's very crispy here in Hillsborough. I think we had one 0.2" storm two weekends ago and that is it. I've been watering my lawn but it's just not enough and have given up as there is no point in wasting water. Just let the dormancy prevail until we get a change. Sucks for your business though.

I think the school dismissal rationale has to do with putting kids on buses during severe storms. I grew up in GA and we never had early dismissal due to storms but there were several times where we were held at school late due to severe storms and tornadoes. The days of piling into a school hallway and assuming the position is a distant memory.
There’s also the liability aspect which is higher these days compared to the 80s and 90s.

Ida type rains here. A little PTSD. Serious lightning too.

About 1” and moderate to heavy snow here in Somerset County. Sideways snow at times

Winter storm watch up for my area and Warren county in NJ.
Curious when the changeover occurs in Warren County. 11 AM-12 PM? Also curious if the roads will remain just wet since it'll be in the mid 30s or if they become a mess with the heavy rates. We have to load a marching band truck and travel to Central NJ around 12-1 and I think it could be a mess up that way.

What is the professional opinion on ratios with this storm? I realize the high winds cut those ratios down, but as you get further away from the low wouldn't ratios possibly get slightly higher?

It’s the SREFS so typically garbage but actually compared to 18z the precip and snow means increased. Not by a lot but an increase. TTN went up a few inches.

-
Snowing rather hard in Hillsborough. Heaviest right before the changeover.

Not that it means much but between 15z and 21z the SREF mean total snow at TTN has gone from 5 to 10”. I don’t expect anything but the SREF has upticked.

We really don't need anything significant here in Hillsborough and especially the town over in Manville. I love good storms, but after almost 10" last Wednesday (and 5" the week before) and a weekend spent removing basement carpet, I've welcomed the dry weather over the past 6 days.

What a night...hail, wind, over and inch of rain, constant thunder and lightning...looks like Round Valley didn't screw it up for our area tonight
Over 2” here but not sure how accurate my “Accurite” is. It’s typically close to surrounding stations.

Centered about 10 miles from here. That was crazy. Whole house was shaking for 20 seconds. Definitely felt like it was coming from the direction where it was centered.
