Climate Change from a geological perspective

Andy Revkin posted an interesting dot Earth column - A CO2 warning etched in stone and sediment. I recommend watching the video interview with Bryan Lovell, the President of the Geological Society of London.

It struck me as a very good rebuttal to anyone saying that we don't know for certain that dumping gigatons of GHGs into the atmosphere will be a bad thing. Well, geologists looking at episodes in Earth's history when CO2 levels rose rapidly, as they are doing currently, can say with confidence that, yes, it will be a very bad thing. Not for the Earth itself - just for the lifeforms living on it.

The mudstone deposits might have something to do with the decarbonization of shelly creatures such as copepods that everyone ultimately depends on for food.

It links up to Don's post about acidification.

Funny how many routes there are to the same conclusion in AGW story.

To me, thats a screaming indicator of something being urgently wrong.
