  1. Going to begin the banter thread with some quotes.... "Historically, consensus has been the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to avoid debate by claiming that the matter is already settled." Michael Crichton "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go as a team." John Wooden "Offense sells tickets. Defense wins games. Rebounds win championships." Pat Summitt "Baseball is 90% physical and the other half is mental." Yogi Berra "Life for me ain't been not crystal stair." Langston Hughes. When we finally tie this thread up in a bow, we will likely be able to see the first cold front of fall on LR models....
  2. Welp, it is finally December!!!! Here is the banter thread for DJF. Sitting here on a beautiful, sunny day after a cold November. Time to drink some egg nog, watch the college football playoffs, talk some basketball, and prep for the Super Bowl. And of course sprinkle in a bit of weather talk!
  3. The BOS office was the one putting out the forecasts but the other 3 had a lot of tasks like upper air, radar, and full time observations. Eventually they all consolidated to Taunton except for the balloon launches still in CHH. A random fact about the Boston office was that they issued hurricane and tropical storm headlines for the region in the 1950s and 1960s before NHC took over.
  4. Heavy rain thunder lightning
  5. Time to open a new banter thread....hopefully no one lost their crops this morning!
  6. I can no longer hold it back anymore...I'm pissed at the weather. Until I was 18 I lived in an immediate Philly suburb and since I was 12 years old I would watch the interesting winter storms deliver well to my west. When I knew I would become a Penn Stater in 2007 I thought "Yes! Now I will watch my home town get rain and finally cash in!" Yet that b*tch mother nature had other plans... Flash forward to winter 2009-10. The most amazing winter ever recorded in the major metropolitan areas with 3 top 5 storms in Philly. Ouch. Back here, I just watched with envy thinking "soon enough it'll be our time!" That winter crushed me. I have been here now for 5 winters, entering my 6th. State College has just about the same amount of cumulative snowfall as Philadelphia over that time. Wow. And now, to put it over the top, they are getting a significant snowfall in early November! A feat only accomplished twice in the last 25 years (according to the Philly thread). We are left with clouds wishing to see a flake or two. This all coming after the excitement with Sandy, but I won't go into that because I would not wish that upon anyone. I'm just hoping sometime in the next few winters we get that textbook coastal runner that I always would watch from rainy Philadelphia so that I can feel a little reimbursed. I expected better from the interior! Sorry for that...I just had to vent. Feel free to share your own disappointment or other complaints! Philly annual snowfall: State College annual snowfall:
  7. Severe season has been less than stellar. Tropics probably won't be all that active, summer heat hasn't panned out. People rockin' with their COC out. What's New England weather coming too? Discuss........
  8. Went ahead and began a Fall banter thread. So, banter away....and may the force be with you.
  9. Stovepipe...just mulched the flower beds, planted two shrubs, and cleaned-up the yard. Getting ready to put in lettuce (red and buttercrunch), potatoes, herbs, and onions. I really want a greenhouse - small.
  10. As we turn the clock towards midnight, we close the books on February. The NCAA basketball tourney awaits as does some wild weather. Banter away......................................It's been great spending winter w/ you all.
  11. Guys I have to ask how much Fayetteville is looking at. I have 4 kids, 1 car and 5 classes to get to...lol. Is it looking like an all mix/sleet event for Fay? zr? snow? rain? help a brother out.
