Welp, that was interesting.
Here in NE Ohio, everyone I know lost power bad during the straight-line wind thunderstorm that blew through in late August of last year. The forecasts showed winds gusting 50-60 mph, and we have been on edge since Thursday. Every single person I talk to says they're "done with snow and winter", and I personally detest winter weather, so we were happy that we had no snow accumulation. I should note, we had a quick 1-2 inches in an hour around 4pm Friday night before turning to rain and melting away.
Thankfully, it's past us, so now we just get some arctic air. Overall, the local mets hype about winds didn't get *quite* as bad as we had been fearing.
For those more seasoned in winter weather than myself, was the storm weaker than expected? Did the winds underperform in NE Ohio or was it what you guys expected?
National Weather Service reported gusts over 60 in Cleveland and Parma.
Here's a link that hopefully works.

To each their own, but if we're talking food there are better options. If you want a margarita it could be a good option. Before things get bad here, I would suggest stopping in at Ventura's Mexican restaurant. Welcome to T-Town!

Snow wise, the models are still looking good for Toledo. Hopefully we can get the first real snow blower worthy snow of the season.

Looks like the Cleveland office isn't buying the models showing bigger snow accumulations for the Toledo area. They are going with a winter weather advisory for 1-3 inches and some ice.
QuoteWINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THURSDAY TO 1 AM EST FRIDAY... * WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. * WHERE...Portions of north central and northwest Ohio. * WHEN...From 1 PM Thursday to 1 AM EST Friday. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Precipitation will begin as rain early Thursday afternoon, changing over to freezing rain, sleet, and then snow by late Thursday evening.

This thing might actually give us some snow in the Toledo area. I wasn't expecting that.

12.5" total at the Toledo airport as of 11 pm. Probably won't add much if anything to that.

Crazy depths around Chicago. Depths gotten quite nice here in Southeast Michigan as well. East Side has the deepest snow right now. Snow depth in SE MI vary anywhere from 11 to 18". We had 15" here this morning, 14" at Detroit, 15" White Lake, 13" ann arbor, 16" bad axe, 17" Richmond. As mentioned above the 17" snow depth in Toledo is their deepest since 1978. We however had deeper snow in 2014 & 2015.
I am surprised the snow depth wasn't higher in 2014 in Toledo. We had 40 inches of snow and it was also the 7th coldest January on record.

Looks like a storm total of 12.4 inches in Toledo. Fifth biggest 2 day storm in record, according to 13ABC.

CLE finally issued Winter Storm Watches, but not for NW Ohio. Not exactly I buy that either.
So they changed their minds over the course of about an hour? Why?

Crazy that nothing was issued. 3-5” across Toledo seems to be the consensus. With not even an advisory...And Fulton County and Monroe County both had advisories.

Wow. That would qualify as a low end Winter Storm Warning...

I feel at times the NWS in Cleveland neglects their I-75 Counties (Lucas, Wood, and Hancock). Seems like at times they play favorites especially in their eastern CWA.
If this was happening in the Cleveland area right now they'd be all over it. It's not so they don't care. They told a local meteorologist that it needs to be 4-6 inches of snow in a 12 hours period for a winter weather advisory.

Also, in this current set up, why doesn't Toledo get lake affect. Is it our Elevation??
13abc meteorologist just showed a lake effect band in Toledo on Facebook. Not sure if it's strength.

2-4 inches in the Toledo area. Another 1-2 possible today. We'll see.

I'm ready for this to go north of my area, but I hope I'm wrong. That cutoff could be rough.
-
2 inches at Toledo Airport as of a half hour ago. Could make a run at 4.
-
This is looking a lot better than it was a couple days ago when we were in the all rain area. Should at least get some snow and it's nice to see a winter storm watch.

2 inches on the ground here west of Toledo.

5.5 inches of snow in Toledo area before the changeover.

January 22-23 Potential Ice Event
in Lakes/Ohio Valley
Posted
When I was out main roads weren't too bad. Most side roads I saw still had a coating of ice/slush at 10 am.
