Really coming down again in the city! It’s gorgeous out.

On the bright side, it has already snowed more this winter than last—not that that was a high bar or anything. You can only go up from nothing. 

Fully over to sleet in the Fan near VCU.

Snowing moderately in Bon Air. Just changed over about 10 minutes ago.

Fwiw, DT basically just called it off for RVA. Said any snow that does fall here will very quickly change over to rain.

So, given the trends, what’s RIC looking like? I assume next to nothing, because that seems to be the long running normal at this point.

We can’t get a much better run for 90% of this sub than that.  But I sympathize that it wasn’t as great for the eastern shore.  

Or Richmond. Or Hampton Roads.

Well, they don’t really consider Richmond and Hampton Roads part of the Mid-Atlantic. At least, that’s the vibe the bellyaching folks give off.

I’m starting to get concerned that even in a Nino, we can’t seem to score winter weather systems.

I’ve been wondering for awhile, if central Virginia and especially the Tidewater have passed some kind of threshold with regards to changing climate where it just doesn’t really snow anymore.

Getting genuinely curious what it’s gonna take for it to snow more than a heavy dusting in the city again?

It is only January, but time moves quick, and we won’t be in an El Niño forever.

It is really coming down in the Fan. Beautiful to see after last “winter”.

I’m not sure where else to ask this, but my family and I are heading down to Carolina Beach, NC on vacation tomorrow through next Saturday, and my mom is freaking out because Weather Channel is saying rain everyday. Anyone have a more detailed analysis? Is it looking like a (literal) wash next week?

This is the heaviest I’ve seen it snow in Richmond since the December 2018 storm. Absolute whiteout outside.

Radar looks terrible, like we’re already at the back edge.  It’s giving classic Richmond vibes.

I’m back in Carytown from Bon Air. Way more snow down there. It’s like 60% sleet here… Like sheets of sleet coming down.

Wondering how we’re going to get much at all, at this rate.

Any ideas on what time the changeover will happen in RIC? Little sad but unsurprised to see things trended worse for us overnight. This really is the worst city in the region for snow lovers.

Currently 38 per Accuweather. I wonder what time we change over, though waking up to all of the overnight discussion didn’t give much confidence for RVA. As is almost universally the case, things seemed to have trended too much away from us.

Kinda surprised that looking forward, it looks like the southern mid-Atlantic might not see any frosts or freezes before, like, mid-November at the rate things seem to be going. Certainly not looking likely this month.

Probably completely anecdotal, but hopefully that’s not an omen/correlation for winter. 

Me, sitting in my car as it torrential monsoon rains for the 5th day in a row in Richmond:

”Drought? I don’t know her.”

So, work tomorrow at 2 pm—possible to get there safely or should I avoid it?
