Sleetfest continues in Del Ray, Alexandria...almost no flakes now.

In Del Ray, not Old Town proper.

Mostly sleet in Alexandria still. Some flakes mixing in. I know where I live and know what to expect, but that doesn't mean I have to like this. 

All sleet in Alexandria at the moment. The joys of living 10' above sea level by the river.

Getting word that Columbia Heights Education Campus may have to be relocated for repairs.

wow! Right by my apartment, too. That is a lot of kids to relocate.

If you're referring to me-- since I'm the only Californian in this thread (): I'm not making fun of the event. It was obviously significant. I felt people would be interested to see the MM scale to understand where this event falls compared with other quakes, and also to learn that "violent" actually means specific things when discussing quakes.

Was not trying to make fun of you either in a later post. Thanks for providing that info, interesting and informative.

Californians always have a field day when quakes happen in non quake areas. I've felt plenty ... It was 'violent' for a few seconds by our standards.

Easy to mock us when living/working in buildings built to withstand a quake. About to go hang out with a couple of Cali friends, I'm sure I will be summarily made fun of.

Based on that scale, I'd call it moderate.

Sounds about right. Let's just call it violent for us East Coast Weenies. That was enough shaking for my old a** building.

Small damage to the 7-11 at 14th and Rhode Island. Looked like a chimney down.

Wow! That was my first earthquake and I never want to feel one again. My work building is really old and not earthquake proof in the least. I honestly felt like the walls were coming down during the big shaking.
