GSP just updated the forecast..
The 11 am advisory from NHC has forced some changes and upgrades to the forecast. The latest track takes the storm center over the western Piedmont early Saturday morning as it is weakening from a Tropical Storm to a Depression. The problem is the expanded wind field as the storm interacts with a surface boundary and the pressure gradient ahead of that boundary as it moves back north. Indications are that during the daytime on Friday, stronger wind gusts upwards of 45 to 55 mph may lift northward across the I-77 corridor through the afternoon and evening...well ahead of the center of circulation. After coordination with neighboring offices, the decision was made to issue a Tropical Storm Warning because the chances of getting Tropical Storm force wind gusts is roughly 50 pct or higher along/east of a line from roughly Chester to York, Lincolton, and Statesville. The strongest winds would be Friday afternoon and evening. The areas west of the Tropical Storm Warning will likely get an Advisory on the next issuance later this afternoon. A Flood Watch will probably also be issued for part of the fcst area with the heavier rain developing Friday morning.

Yep, me too. My residence, and the rental home we own is surrounded by large trees.

GSP mentioned they were debating issuing a TS watch at 3:30 am.
Looks like they are still mulling it over. The short term forecast didn’t change with the 6:45 update. -
Weather.gov has CLT at 44° right now. Hoping we will be good.

He basically said this warm nose is gonna be so strong it warms most to 33 but looking at the “Futurecast” it still had Iredell/Rowan/Catawba at 30-32 for a good chunk so I almost think he’s more so talking about CLT immediate
Well that’s good news for Charlotte.
I feel for you guys up north. Looking to be brutal. -

I’d love to see .5 of freezing rain here in Hickory
Really? It becomes “unfun” very quickly. Looks very pretty for a few hours...till the power goes out. Your stuck with no power...most likely for days.

Maybe that's why they are meteorologists and I'm just a hobbyist.

Here’s hoping that the I-85 snow border, applies to Ice. I don’t need this.

Midtown Charlotte- we got probably 30 minutes of big wet flakes. Ended around an hour ago. All quiet now.

This is what we do around here. We whine a quarter way through the event.
You’re too kind....whining starts at least 4 days before an event..lol

Like the “ highly subject to change “ part! I’m hoping for some clearing and lower temps than forecast! Supposed to be 40/41 at onset!
Just can’t see much clearing from the looks of this...

ed:maybe not the right band to look at
ed2: looking at Sugar webcams, definitely clearing there,

Hard to put faith into a map that doesn’t even include a B on it
Haha, noticed that too. But I went to MS State, so I figured it out.

A quick note on Webb; he graduated with a degree in meteorology from NC State, which in my view makes him a meteorologist. I was in a class or two with him and can personally vouch the dude is pretty brilliant. Forecast against him at your own risk.Ok. Point taken. But you have to admit that first map was pretty bad. The follow ups made more sense, and I’m not talking about forecast amounts people.

Literally every zone this guy forecast is basically exactly the same “a few or a couple or several inches” ...why is the UNCC Grad student held in such high regard by some here, but real, actual meteorologists are not.
