  1. Holy carp! WYFF break in just said significant ice incoming as they feared. Wedge not moving as of now.Still 27.7* F here.

Edit: They said significant, but I still don't believe that is the right word, but we are about to get a glaze down here.

Edit again: It's neat to see this play out. Hope everyone in NC/SC CAD area is comfy and safe. Don't drive!

  2. Impressive CAD! It's COLD out there and I froze my behind off while putting gas in my car.A few little slick in spots driving home but wasn't too bad on the highway. Most people were driving cautiously. There was a crash on I-385 S in Mauldin on an overpass, of course. Definitely ice-related as the truck had spun around, hit two other cars, and hit the rail guard.

  3. Watching the radar closely and will be heading home if I see it show anything substantial coming this way. I work downtown, about 15-20 minutes north of my house but I think it's going to be ok. Right now GSP area just has spotty drizzle and flurries in places. It's looked the same on the radar all day. I'm watching all the little puffs of precip come in from the SC coast. We are still right at 28*F downtown. Temp hasn't really moved since 10:30 am when we were 26*F.

  4. My car is covered in a glaze of ice. Warmed up two degrees to 28*F. Roads are ok and lots of people out driving around. I saw quite a few little bursts of flurries while sitting in my car at lunch. It was pretty :) Husband says it was lightly snowing in Greer a little while ago.

  5. Yeah, I don't think any model had GSP that cold.

No it didn't! I'm a bit concerned because I am at work and not at home where I like to be when roads are icy. It is raining lightly here. Fraining.

I know light glaze of ice was forecasted for this time of day - It just made me nervous. Sorry for the banter! Mods please delete if you feel necessary.

  6. Mack's right. Mine is reporting 33* Most in this zip are right at 34 and one saying 35*.

I know there is virga all over CLT but is any of that hitting the ground? Looks like a good sized swath of snow over central NC on the radar. All the way down to the NC/SC border.

  7. I see them cancelling it down here eventually. I don't see how anything frozen will fall here at all with the overrunning going north. DRY slot city down here. CLT at least looks like they will get some flurries or frizzle in the wee hours of the morning that might warrant a statement or advisory.

  8. Just FWIW (nothing) I made what I'd consider a First Call map. I'll probably make another tomorrow. Just for fun.

Yeah, I think you're on the right track from what I understand. Was hoping for a day off Monday. Looks like getting to the office might be an issue in the morning if you're correct, but I bet I'm at work by noon, which is better than a normal Monday I guess.

  9. I'm here for the winter ride again and glad to be here. Last winter was frustrating at times. We got a small ice event and also came the event of high hopes, shattered. We got 2" of snow on the morning commute the day before the HUGE STORM was supposed to hit and it ended up as rain here that night. Don't remember the date exactly but I'm sure you all know the one I'm referring to. It was a 3 alarm event and bread and milk and batteries off the shelves in every store. The morning commute in the snow the day before was kind of cool. Got to drive to work in it and actually experience driving to work because we didn't want to shut down since the big one was coming lol. Any other forecasted 2" and we would have been delayed but didn't want to since the BIG ONE was on it's way. Work and lots of businesses shut down prepared for a foot of snow and the dynamics did not happen as so many thought. Anyhow, the weather is going to do what it's going to do and I know it's hard to forecast but I love the build up and science at work when something is potentially coming. That's why I log in here every winter. Right now I'm so confused with this Jan 13th. Some enthusiasts and mets see something possibly coming into play, others see nothing. I know there is really nothing to look at but that whole "potential" gives me something to look for but yet, it's not really there yet. Some say pattern potential, some say torch. So dang confused atm.........Where's Mr. Toad's Wild Winter Ride in the SE? California is on the El Nino ride. I want that ride to sail on up over here with cold in place. I really hope we get something REAL to track this winter, even if it busts like last year for mby. Love the action.
