And my wife flipped the AC on. I hope this is an unbeatable first AC day of the year.
We did have 1 cooling degree day yesterday. That probably hasn’t happened much in January.

The building radar returns down along I-95 look promising.

If we can hang on today it will be the first time since Feb 2021 of two consecutive days below freezing at DCA.
The forecast has tomorrow making three days for the first time since January 2018.

1989 was the last time and it was a tie. The last time outright was 1970.
I dug a little deeper for DCA. Counts by month (the count is higher than the period of record because of ties):
March: 1 (1907)
April: 2 (1960, 1976)
May: 4 (1889, 1963, 1996, 2004)
June: 35
July: 83
August: 42
September: 13
October: 0 (In 2019 DCA was one degree away with 98 in October, the annual high was 99)- 3

How frequently does DCA have its hottest temperature of the year in September?

It’s only a matter of time before we start seeing heat advisories in February
It will be tough for LWX to justify unless we can reach a heat index of 110.

I can’t remember the year but I remember it was one of the few times I saw -0 temps and it was March. Saw -4 driving through Bull Run Battlefield. Maybe 2015. Negative anything is rare here any month.
Lots of -5 to -10 in central VA that morning.

Flurries in Fredericksburg which I didn’t expect given comments from Charlottesville and how radar looks.

I didn’t do a measurement but I’m just E of Fredericksburg and it looks to be in the 1-1.5” range.

Looks like an increase to me? https://www.weather.gov/lwx/winter
I was in the 1-2" range this morning.
Fredericksburg was in 2-3, now in 1-2. And the high end amount is now 3.9, down from maybe 4.5.

It would appear that LWX dropped totals.

Temp just dropped from 50 to 47. Almost there.

GFS, NAMs, HRRR and RAP all show 2-4” with 5” lollies for the corridor. Hard to ignore the trend.
What about the hot hand...the Euro?

We only got 6-8” here in Luray. Pretty hard to measure with all the blowing then sleet.
Starting to get freezing drizzle really do some work. It’s 28°.The unnecessary decimal on that graphic...

2.1” in Shirlington. Still mostly snow but I hear some pingers.
