  1. Ha, so did my dad. I looked it up, they had a period in the 60's where five out of six years had really cold/snowy winters, so that's what my dad must remember. Funny enough, climate change may actually send Europe into an ice age. We're at 50deg N in Wiesbaden, that's about 300mi north of Quebec City. The Gulf Stream is what keeps us warm, but that's driven by the fresh water coming off of the Arctic Ice.
  2. Thanks! Ha, I was born in Wiesbaden. Medenbach (a small suburb) is where I grew up. No snow to speak with, but I have (written) recordings of the daily weather from my youth
  3. I thought about it but was worried that most won't pick up on Germanfrankfurter. Not sure it's a thing here, alongside the Wiener and Hamburger. I grew up close to Frankfurt, so there's that. Anyways, don't mean to derail/hijack this thread...back to being a silent observer. Keep it up guys!
  4. Haha yup. It actually seems to perform quite well over in Europe. Was in the Alps last winter during an epic 2week period with 15' of snow. But snow events are very different compared to the US / East Coast. More of a sustained/constant NW flow that pushes cold moisture against the alps for days and weeks at a time. Gets really interesting with blockage/upslope ("Staueffekte"), sometimes some areas get 5' while 5 miles south it's nothing. Soundings (upper level winds) tell you how far "in" the snow will make it.
  5. As an outsider looking in, I just want to say thank you all for being passionate weather freaks. I am a snow lover myself, engineer by trade, so I have an inherent interest in following the conversations about weather/storm threats here (and I may sometimes use it to sound really smart in front of my friends ). I have no meteorological knowledge to speak of and am mostly busy googling terms that are being thrown around. Still, after lurking around for the last eight years, it was somewhat obvious that this system wasn't going to dump 12" on most of SNE, or, at least that chances are very very slim. You build a kind of sense, almost like an intuition. Maybe that's part of what the Pope is referring to. Either way, half the entertainment I get by following you guys is from the (sometimes too) serious and passionate banter, and for that, I thank you! It's truly entertaining, so keep it up!!
