  1. Stratton was bluebird. Clouds forming on the southern windward side quickly evaporated on the leeward side. Snow was soft and easy to turn in. I had trouble finding bumps. The firm base under the spring corn just refused to bump up. But what a glorious day with no lines and a festive vibe. 2333d3141d598b2d70bbae3fe44a0511.jpg

  2. For those craving damaging winds, be careful what you wish for. My house got split in half by a massive 140 year old Norway spruce on February 3 (arctic front - 64 mph gust) and we have been displaced ever since. Gave up on getting back in house anytime soon (Statefarm is so slow and contractors can’t find help) so we are closing on a new house on Friday (out in the country, more land, higher elevation and hopefully more snow). Gonna sell the old house which will be virtually brand new…. Hopefully late spring . Damaging winds can change your life for sure. With that being said, wind gonna do what wind gonna do, so wishing for or against it won’t change anything lol.

  3. Days 3-5 Alta Snowbird. Day 4 was an epic powder day. They opened Mineral Basin just as we’re got there and we got 5 epic powder runs. We liked Alta and loved Snowbird. So many chutes, gullies, bowls! Double blacks everywhere. Took the keyhole from Alta to Snowbird. So much fun!!!

  4. Day 2 - Deer Valley. 25” fresh but we got there late since SLC got their biggest storm in 10 years supposedly. We got about 16” in Draper at our AirBnB. Great sprawling ski area with great trees and cruisers. Some decent steeps but not a lot.

  5. Top ten day at MHM for our “last.” Deep powder turns with constant refreshers. Face shots all day long.

Our flights got cancelled the next day due to a 12/06 Boston type situation in Portland Wednesday night .  We drove up Seattle to fly out of there instead.  We skied the summit at Snoqualmie at night.  Very cold but also very fun.
Finally after more cancelled flights we made it home at 3:40am Saturday. Full 30 hours later than expected.

Woot woot! Great mountains! Skied Bachelor, Hood Meadows and Hoodoo on 2 different trips. Very unique mountains with different feels than the Rockies. Glad you had a blast!

  6. Mount Hood Meadows is pretty legit.  Doesn’t get the credit it deserves.  Skied some pretty steep lines yesterday, heather canyon, private reserve, both super fun.  The rest of the mountain was pretty awesome too.  Snow was real good while the sun was out.  Skied a pretty legit no fall line into Heather canyon, chalky wind blown to straight up ice, had to tell myself several times “I’m a good f$&king good skier!”

Some of my favorite ski days of all time were at Hood Meadows. Heather Canyon and Clark Canyon are just plain epic. Never felt so small lol. Hood is a beast of a mountain. Enjoy!
  7. Not sure how to follow up Japan.  That looks like it was an amazing trip!  I’d like to make it there someday.

February 1st marks the beginning of the end for snowmaking at a lot of resorts. Most places like to wrap it up before the busy school vacation week.  So go longer depending on weather and need.  Looks like a prime stretch for round the clock snowmaking the rest of this week at least down here.

Time for Killington to start loading up Superstar. Base isn’t currently deep on it.

  8. Japan is a magical place. Did 11 days of skiing on the northern island of Hokkaido followed by 3 days in Tokyo. The people, food and snowfall were all incredible. Will 1000% be going back in hopefully the not too distant future.

  9. Killington was fun today. No lines. They opened Outer limits with a ton of snow guns962752d777ad27a8dddbc7cb31bcf21c.jpg
going. It was so fun! Definitely get the burn. Killington also had a ton of natural trails open that were pretty thin. My skis survived too lol. Most of the brown is leaves and grass. Not as bad as it looks. The 11” really helped conditions but that boiler plate lurks beneath and shows is ugly face in places. 69e2c43b6b7a96c69daf4c68a1be54dc.jpg

  10. Wolf Creek is awesome btw: Also, been watching Taos webcams - doing a lot of skiing vicariously this season so far! pounding snow there right now. They have a 40-50+ base right now too.

That’s great news for them. They have not been doing well the last decade.
