Regarding the upper level conditions, four days ago the NHC discussions talked about day 2 being the best, allowing Florence to max out at 150 mph, and then shear would pick up some as it approached the coast, leading to some weakening.  The opposite happened.  Shear knocked it down on day 2 and diminished as it approached the coast.

    funny how things turn out

This storm loves its ERCs. The outer eyewall in the last MIMIC image is massive. That thing has to be like 50-60 miles wide. We could have a giant truck tire by the end of the day or tonight.

seriously, i feel like its undergoing nonstop ERCs for the last 2 days already. She's clearly been bulking up for the big hit. :rambo:

We took a walk out to the beach where it’s more exposed and the wind is frequently gusting over 30mph. It’s been dark and overcast most of the day with occasional showers. Nothing heavy so far has made it over the mountain. That will all change when the wind direction becomes more Easterly rather than Northeasterly.

    ok then. stay safe

I’m blaming the time difference and because we have no recon and the storm is weakening.

i didnt think about that, but still it's funny seeing this 9 page thread about a major hurricane potentially landfalling in hawaii ( a true rartity) while winter threads easily fill 50+ pages containing nothing more than wishcasting and banal banter that has nothing to do with the topic at hand

going back on topic; how are conditions there currently?

It's already underway. It will take many hours to complete, if at all, taking into consideration the outer eyewall is still very large and the inner one is just beginning to show signs of being "choked"

thanks. if and how much do you think maria will weaken before landfall in PR. i know its going to be bad regardless, just wondering.

HMON pressures are not reliable.  HMON predicted something like 857 mb over the FL keys with Irma, which didn't even come close to happening.

857mb lol what a joke. anyway does the ERC seem to be beginning soon?
