It will at least be making landfall during daylight hours versus night. At least people will be able to see what the hell they're doing while all hell is breaking lose and have to find other shelter. Correct me if wrong but during this horrendous hurricane season this will be the first daylight LF? All others were at night?

Thanks, thought it was relatively close. As far as the infrastructure in PR, it's about to get destroyed. They have already said expect to have no power for months and no drinking water for weeks. The islands electric provider filed for bankruptcy in July. Most commutation towers were built 20 plus yrs ago to withstand 135mph.

Anyone able to post were Irma was in relation to were Maria is now? Just curious as I imagine Irma was no more than 100-150 miles more northeast?

We are now 16-17 hrs in from the last communication out of Dominica. Has anyone heard anything? The situation would appear to be dire. With the sun setting soon it appears less likely to hear anything the rest of the night.

Not a chance it gets down to 130 by LF in PR. You expect a ERC to take 35mph off it? Or do you feel there is something else not being mentioned that will reduce wind speed?

Pretty scary as there has been no communication out of Dominica for a solid 12-13 hrs....this has St Maarten type of destruction written all over it.

Want disagreeing with you, just posting info to back up your post of the port area being most likely to take on surge. I believe this area that you posted is what locals call "new" San Juan as the most recently modern development in San Juan vs the downtown old San Juan.

Just examined my vaca pics of San Juan. The pic you posted of the area around the port is probably one of the few areas that could take on large amounts of storm surge. The majority of San Juan is protected by high enough elevations that the surge will not impact. In addition in old San Juan there are many streets that have high elevation that will keep them safe from flooding. The areas around the forts and downtown old San Juan should be ok from surge but the port area could take on lots of water.

Keep in mind that there are still 60,000 without power in PR from Irma.
