  1. 8” new as of 8 AM, probably compacted.  Had 1-1/2” at 10:30 last night so big thump in early AM.  Light snow now, minimal wind.  30F.  It was much windier here yesterday before precip started.  Looks like a more impactful band is moving north after a little lull. NWS predicting another 3-8” in Montpelier through Sat AM, which would get us to upper end of predictions yesterday.  With April sun angle don’t see this playing out as depth on the ground.

Yeah, not sure why it’s a bad take that the valley won’t get 9”.

The data has been very stable in showing how this works out.  Biggest gradient from 500-1500ft.

Anecdotally, my friend who lives at 650’ in Montpelier has been all snow for the event.  Up the hill here at 1200’ we have 2” down and dumping big fatties.

0.5” ON THE GROUND OUTSIDE OF GRASS OR PLASTIC!!  0.5”!?  And You people have 6”-10”??

F*** THIS STORM!  In the past 9 days I’ve had to deal with the Chiefs Winning, Mahomes winning a Historic Game WITH an OT coup to boot, Narcissistic Swift & Asshat Kelce taking over the God Dang World seeing unprecedented records and power, my industry has gone So Woke at the Grammys you can’t recognize it, Brandon doesn’t know he’s flipping Alive as President, and now ANOTHER Failed storm like the last 7 “big ones” in a Row here the past 2 years??

This is a weather forum. Not interested in your politics.

I don’t care about the back and forth between SNE posters or jackpotting or even getting advisory level snows. I would, however, like a couple of inches like this shows just to reestablish a wintry vibe. There is no denying that it’s been an out and out torch but I’ve been surprised how resilient the snowpack has been here in my immediate area. It would be nice to pretty it up a bit.

Same sentiment here. Happy for those south of the VT border finally cashing in, but just a bit to freshen things up would be nice.  Seems like storms with the right airmass to get both a northern and southern NE hit is a thing of the past.

6z GFS is almost a complete whiff

Still too early and with a lot of model spread on amount of phasing and resulting track. I remember the days of yore when the Euro ruled in these events at this timeframe and nail biting in this case for a whiff would have been far less. NW trends in GFS as coastal events approach have been pretty reliable this year as SNE forum members know all too well.

  6. I find the Stowe snow report to be pretty accurate to conditions. No real bs making it sound better than it is like some other resorts.   Yes, a “fun challenge” has been the pretty common “not so great but you are not going to die” refrain for some of these post-marginal events or dry periods.

It depends on the shifts.  Since Perry Merrill is the evening uphill route for skinning, that pod gets done after midnight every day.  FourRunner blue terrain is largely before midnight.

Some of that isn’t operator either, but stuff groomed earlier in the night is firmer as a rule because it has time to cool and set.  Gondola stuff is usually good because it’s been groomed under 5 hours to open and sometimes just an hour before opening.  That stuff is freshly tilled with more air in it as it hasn’t had time to set.  So it skis softer.

Thanks for the info on this. Interesting and good to know.

Perry Merrill has been the trail of the season since it opened.  Just pristine every day.  Veteran groomer on that most mornings with like decades of experience.

Yes, I’ve noticed a huge grooming difference Gondala runs versus blues off Forerunner this year. Interesting to hear groomers have their set trails.

I skied at Ski Sundown last night for my adaptive skiing lesson.  At first I tried a mono ski.  But I couldn't balance myself with my arms and kept falling over. So we switched over to there brand new Rossignol Snow Cart.

This cart let's me lye down and control the ski's with poles.  I can snowplow,  turn and brake to control my speed.  Unfortunately I can't use it solo as the base is spring loaded for boarding a chairlift.  The chairlift has to be stopped for loading.

We took 3 Runs down from the summit.  Tom's Treat, Canyon and Nor'Easter. It felt good to ski these trails again. I got some speed on these trails. There a nice group of people.  Very friendly and Patient.  My next lesson is on February 7th.
