Ha ha... this is like new inductee night at AA in here sometimes...

"Hi, my name is Mike, and I'm a winterholic"

"HI Mike, mike mike", over lapping, fading.

Dude, have we met? ;) and the coffee has to be changed around here, it tastes like ass.

  2. Hey guys,

I am from syracuse ny. But I follow the winter stuff in all the regions to see how it may play out.

I wanted to pop a message in here of thanks to you all. I really appreciate your posts and postulations on what may come. I know that forecasting isn't an exact science, and you all get pilloried for it regardless of what the actual weather is.

Know you are all appreciated and read with interest every day by this enthusiast from upstate ny! Good luck this year, and may the snow gods ever blow in your favor!

    -Mike

Going to make an appointment to get the vaccine shot tomorrow or Wednesday. In being transparent, I'm totally nervous about it. I know it's "not a big deal" to many, but I have always struggled with putting new things in my body. My immune system tends to be one that doesn't respond well to medications and tests...I'm always one of the "rare cases" with an odd response to things...

You've got this man! Hang in there and take a day or two off from work to recover if it hits ya. :)

Term limits would do the trick. 2 terms for Congress, 1 for Senate, keep 2 for Pres. The Judicial branch would balance it out. That would clean things up tremendously. That along with government-only sourced campaign dollars with limits would really stabilize things. The Founding Fathers never intended life-long careers for elected officials in the Exec and Leg branches.

Good luck with that... They've insulated themselves from being affected by us. They carve out the most advantageous district for themselves to remain in power. Now, thanks to the bull that happened last fall, certain states can willy-nilly decide what a vote is and isn't... its disgraceful...

I really wish we could just clean out our government...BOTH sides...and start fresh...because their corruption and games are destroying us from within.

This I agree with. BUT, they've built up quite the layers of protection over the last few decades.

I think it will be nearly impossible to vote out the problematic players though.

Not a great day for Governors in US...between Cuomo's non-apologizing resignation statement (how could i possibly have known?...), and DeSantis' fantacist Covid explanation.  And people wonder why some of us view politicians with a jaded eye.  ;)

They gotta play to the audience...
When there is a simmering anti-other sentiment being fomented, they become the reason for a societys ills..

I was interested in that event, so I was watching the videos of it on YouTube yesterday. Do you know how Lysander/Bville area faired during the event?

I've been looking for places in the Granby area...close enough to Fulton to cash in on some of the westerly bands, but close enough to work in Bville. I also prefer rural living. I love Baldwinsville and find it to be a beautiful village. Housing is definitely more expensive though and sells so FAST. I still include Bville and Phoenix in my search.

I am sorry to say I am not familiar how your area dealt with it. I am from the Onondaga Hill area and worked at a place over towards Solvay/Fairmount at the time.

Tree loss is always so heartbreaking for me to watch.  Those trees across the road were probably 50-70 years old.  They will never be fully replaced in anyones lifetime living there now.

Also, I always picture Derechos as having one very strong push of intense winds followed by lesser gusts.  I'm completely amazed to see that this storm had many rounds of severe winds over a 30 minute period.  I don't even understand how that happens in a storm like this.

I always say I want strong storms, but thats a hard no for something like that.  Just devastating...

I went through our labor day storm here in syracuse that was a derecho event that came in on Labor Day eve of 1998.
    https://www.syracuse.com/news/2018/09/labor_day_storm_1998_20_years_ago_the_fist_of_god_hit_syracuse.html

The things I remember most about that night was the color of the sky. It glowed green and purple under the constant lightning.  The 4 bands of winds that came through had to be gusting to around 75-80mph. It tore trees up around here like nothing I'd seen before. It took around an hour for the storm to pass through completely. It was the only time our family gathered in the stairwell of the house because we felt the need to. Power was knocked out for around 5-6 days, a few vendors over at the fairgrounds were killed because they were tenting at the fairgrounds near their booths. A major church lost one of it's steeples that only recently got replaced.

It was a hell of a storm and every labor day weekend there are retrospective shows on that nights weather and how we all pulled together to clean up and make it.

    That was paywalled.

CDC director says a second wave of coronavirus in the winter could hit the US harder than the current outbreak

If you run chrome, you can right-click the page, go down to the code inspector at the bottom of the popup and you'll get a panel on the right. If you hover your mouse over the code bits that you see, you can right click and delete them until you drill down to a usable page.

Thanks! The Mavic Air flies for 21 minutes with a video transmission of 4 km (2.48 miles).  It’s has a 10 km max flight range without wind and has a max height above sea level of 5 km (3.1 mile)

I am planning to go to the lake but not over the water too much, along the beach for sure though.

On that note, you do know the rules of the road up there, yes?
