  1. Loss of population is not unique to Cuba. For example, in 2015, Greece's population was approximately 10.8 million, while the 2025 population is estimated to be around 9.9 million. Over the same timespan, Greece lost more people than Cuba. Italy's population was approximately 60.9 million in 2015 and is estimated to be around 58.9 million in 2025. The population has been declining, with a projected further decrease to about 50 million by 2050. Countries lose population when they have a low birth rate, and the number of immigrants is low. This is a world-wide phenomenon, except in Africa.
