Most of this thread has been either: talking about snowmobiling out west, reminiscing about past seasons, complaining about the lack of snow.   Really paints a grim picture of the current state of things

We just don't get enough snow for consistent snowmobiling in southern WI. Most years the trails around here are open less than 2 weeks, sometimes not at all.

I much prefer to ride in the mountains vs trail riding. There's always enough snow in the mountains. Just sometimes its old snow vs fresh powder.

I enjoy riding out west also, unfortunately this will be the 3rd winter in a row that our group won’t be going out there. We had a trip planned to the Crater Lake area in Oregon that March that Covid hit so we had to cancel and now with my son’s school schedule, he’s a sophomore in college, it’s more difficult for him to take a week off during school so we have just been chasing snow here in MI the past two winters. Hopefully once he graduates we’ll start getting back out west riding before I get to old and can’t do it safely anymore. We’ve riding in West Yellowstone probably a half dozen times, Island Park, Cook city and the last few trips were to Togwotee. When we used to trailer out there we would go to Albany south west of Laramie. Have a safe trip and hopefully you guys will get some fresh powder to play in.

Been to all of those, though we usually stay at Mountain Meadows in the Snowy's, up on top.

At Togwotee now. Going home in morning.

Once restrictions to Canada are lifted, we are going to book a trip to Grizzly Lodge in BC. Got to book a year in advance though. The plan was to do it last year or this year... but covid....

  3. Im a snowmobiler. Though I rarely ride in the midwest anymore. Only when trails are open in my area, SE WI.

I take 3-4, week long trips to Rockies every season. Actually Im in western Wyoming right now. Snow is thin for this area at this time of year as well. No official measurement, but probably about 50"-60" on ground at 10k feet. Hasn't really snowed here in the last month.

Last year was a pretty epic season. This year not so much...

  4. Watertown tornado was 1/4 mile from my house. Tore up a couple  neighbors property pretty good. Had to put down some bison on one of the farms after barn collapsed on them.  Split a tree in half in my yard.

Went and checked out Concord EF1 today. Lots of damage.

I’ve been to Medicene Bow Peak many times. It’s absolutely beautiful up there. Mirror lake is so cool to see in Summer with snow all around the lake even  in July or August. The overlook up there on 130 (Snowy Range Road) is awesome. As far as snowfall, models show 30”+ for the highest elevations of the Snowy Mts. It depends when you get there but I would definitley bet on 1-80 being shut down from Rawlins eastward at some point. What are you going to be doing up there at 10k feet if I may ask? Seems dangerous to me with a storm of this magnitude coming in.

    Snowmobiling.

Yeah Im just trying to gauge how long its going to take us to get there. Yeah Ive been there its pretty cool.

Anyway, thanks! I will stop clogging up the thread.

  6. Hey guys, whats your thoughts on I-80 for Sunday? Should be by NE panhandle early afternoon. Headed to Medicine Bow west of Laramie. Exit 80 at Snowy Range rd Laramie. Good chance they will shut it down?

I dont know much about the weather. I come here (usually midwest sub) to see what you guys have to say about snowfall amounts.

Bonus question, thoughts on snowfall totals at 10K ft in Snowy Range/Medicine Bow? Thanks!

  7. Gotta admit, All week been watching these threads and seeing all the southern scenarios thinking, these things in years past always seemed to head north, specifically Madison, at last min. Was pretty bummed late last night when snow didn't start here until 10:30 and everything was pointing south yet. Woke up to kids school cancelled.

I dont know much about weather, I just come here to see what you guys are thinking.

still lightly snowing here.  Family member got 9.5" in the NW part of Dane County.  They were under the heavy fronto band for about 3 hours last night.

    Nice!

9.4" in Horicon according to news.

I just got in from plowing, I didn't measure, but its over 6". Watertown. Was snowing pretty hard when I stopped 10 mins ago. Sun actually came out for a min or 2, then clouded up again and more snow.
