I imagine northern coast of Spain, where you might see the umbra shadow race over the ocean, would be pretty amazing... also close to sunset over the ocean which could be pretty wild.

Interestingly totality only lasts 1m50sec max.

Looks like path also goes over Ibiza, but not sure I'd have patience for that vibe while seeking natural beauty.

All again highlights just how special this NNE occurrence was.

with eclipse near sundown, make sure your sight lines are excellent. i'd expect most people wanting to be on the coast so mountains don't have an impact

I don't think it ever gets dark as night in all directions  Of course you were near the southern limit of totality so just a few miles to your south that final "light switch" never went out.  I assume right at centerline it is the darkest as the distance is greater to the sunlight on  either side.  That light switch effect is amazing because it happens so fast.  Even that last .25% of sunlight is so strong that until the 2nd contact there is not much to see except that sliver through the glasses. Then bam, it all happens!. At my location it was a 98% partial and my friend who was up was not very impressed.  Too much hype for what, the light just got a bit dimmer but really nothing of note to see.  It was a bit difficult to tell locals that they had to make that 45 mile trip north.

well said... need to get to the center line as much as possible. the further in the shadow the better

100 percent.. all emergency declarations and powers need to be kept in check.

You need to really understand the law behind it. Seems everyone thinks it's some conspiracy so the government can get unchecked power. SMH.
https://nj.gov/njoem/about-us/state-of-emergency.shtml  details the meaning of the state of emergency. In this case, it allows the state to direct resources to local municipalities if they need it. So at this point, it's a formality and means nothing to the average citizen. It doesn't restrict your ability to drive anywhere. For the media, it's a great attention grabbing headline.

I do winter hiking and you would legitimately need expedition down parkas to be out in that, like Everest style down suits. I have a very heavy 240g fill weight down jacket suitable for  below zero temps but even layered with that it would be too cold, and this is a substantially warmer parka than what most people have. Like you can’t even wear it around freezing you’ll sweat your ass off.  I’m sure living in Canada most are well prepared I’m just saying that is most certainly “nuts” cold.

get a pair of bunny boots for extreme cold too

  5. Today's highs

    PHL: 91

    EWR: 93

    TTN: 90

    LGA: 90

    ACY: 88

    TEB: 93

    NYC: 87

    JFK: 86

    ISP: 84

    NBRNSWK: 92

PHL's AFD towards the end of July broke some of this down for their CWA. One of the stats I found interesting and maybe worthwhile to include in this roundup was that PHL averages 4 95 degree or greater days climatologically. This year they're currently at 12 through 07/31, last year the total was 11.

  6. Through Jul 23rd 2010 (LAST YEAR)

    PHL: 33 (April: 0; May: 2; June: 15; Jul: 16)

    TTN: 31 (April: 0; May: 3; June: 10; Jul: 17) *4 89

    EWR: 31 (April: 1; May: 2; June: 13; Jul: 15)

    LGA: 29 (April: 1; May: 2; June: 12; Jul: 14)

    ACY: 28 (April: 1; May: 1; June: 14; Jul: 12)

    TEB: 25 (April: 1; May: 2; June: 10; Jul: 12)

    NYC: 19 (April: 1; May: 1; June: 4; Jul: 13)

    JFK: 18 (April: 0; May: 1; June: 8; Jul: 9)

it would be cool if you put the total the next couple of months and for the year as well
