Let's dispense with this right up front: Dan Bylsma isn't coming back to coach the Penguins.
No chance.
Not happening.
Now of course, his name never came up in the team's clumsy, confounding news conference Friday, the one in which Ray Shero was fired and we then waited awkwardly for the other shoe that never dropped. There already was an element of weirdness that the announcement wasn't being made by owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle but by CEO David Morehouse, Shero's hierarchical equal. And it reached another level when one wiseacre actually had to ask whether, in fact, Bylsma was being fired.
You're welcome.
The answer from Morehouse was no different than those from Lemieux and Burkle an hour later, when they and I met in the owners' voluminous office across the Consol Energy Center hall from the news conference they just dodged.
“Dan's still the coach,” Lemieux replied to my first question, and he kept a straight face.
But no, really, Dan isn't still the coach. And I'll tell you why: It's because when Lemieux and Burkle arrived at their decision to fire Shero, they did so not only because of lousy drafts and an old, overpaid, soft roster, but also because — and let's be clear on this — the coach was every bit on board.
When Burkle made public it was Lemieux who ordered the addition of Jacques Martin to the staff last summer “to bring another coach in and see if we could be more flexible, try to adapt between how we were playing in the regular season and in the playoffs,” he wasn't exactly endorsing the head coach.
When Lemieux repeatedly stated the Penguins were lacking “grit and character,” he once took the extra step to add, “even on special teams.” The power play, he meant. Shooting the puck. Crashing the net. That's on the coach.
When I asked how the Penguins could go all season without giving soon-to-be-ancient defense prospect Simon Despres a long look, Lemieux replied, “Yeah.” Burkle chimed in, “Agree with that 100 percent.”
When Burkle described being convinced last summer by Shero to keep Bylsma, he recalled: “If you look back at that today, in some ways, I wish we hadn't made that bet. If we're disappointed, it's that we lost a year to the change that we should have made already.”
Yeah, that coach isn't coming back.

HEY LOOK DAN FAILSMA IS GOING TO GET FIRED !! BUT I WAS CRAZY RIGHT ??????
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
-
Lol
they tell me I'm wrong but present no facts to back it up! it's their opinion so OF COURSE they are right
-
Why do people hate. When peoples opinions are not like there own. And. Act like there opinion is 100 % right?????? No one knows what the future holds. Balsma could. Win. 6 out of next 8 stanly cups. And this will all be moot , when. U keep losing when it matters and fans and writers start turning on u. U r going to be replaced. They gave db extension to show all they are behind him. And if he gets knocked out early. This year. I bet he will not be around next year. U see all negativity building already. U can't have all this talent and not win in this day and age I hope he wins a cup this year. But I can't see it. There will be to much pressure. On this franchise
because they are college age Skulls full of Mush Who believe that their opinion is right & have been told that their entire life, From the 1st time they got a trophy for signing up to play a sport

“It’s tough to win when you don’t play in the offensive zone,” he added.
Zach Parise !! USA Captain

“We didn’t show up to play. It’s kind of frustrating,” Suter said, per the Olympic News Service. “They’re a good team. We sat back, we were passive. You can’t play scared.”
Suter was a very prominent player for USA tooNext thing you're going to tell me these are jabs at DB too.WELL WHO THE **** SETS THE GAME PLAN ????????????????????
-
With all due respect, Therrien got an extension after 2008. The axe came down nonetheless.
with even more due respect ! HUGE difference BY all accounts the Players LOVE Bylsma & By the same token Owners & GM KNEW the Players HATED MIchel Therrien when he was fired.
& biggest thing is Sid is a HUGE Backer of Bylsma & just like Mario & Jagr what he wants He gets
-
Haha how is that ripping him? DB benched Brown. They asked him why, he said " We went with players we thought could score us a goal " Brown said " I'm not happy about it, but it's the coach's job to figure out the best chance to win if that's what he thinks. " Boy he really roasted him.
saying that the COACH has to find a way to win isn't ripping the coach ?? boy you must really pay attention to hockey Players in interviews they go out of their way not to rip teammates or coaches. That is as good a Rip on a coach you will get from a Player in Hockey

I feel bad for him. If he has another playoff exit. Without making it to cup. He is gone. Guaranteed.
no he won't If he didn't get fired last year afte that disgusting "Performance" against the Bruins with only 1 year left on deal they are NOT firing him with 2 years left & those 2 years being the extension they just gave him in the offseason
Puck daddy who likes him ! Blaming him

DK from Trib on Bylsma failing yet again
-
He had 17 home runs in 127 games before he came over. What do we have that would be better than that? Especially for 6.25 mil a year.
& NONE with Pirates ! & August before being trade had a Majority of those HR's ! Has NOT been the same player since his severe Concussion
-
wow, Dustin Brown ripped Bylsma - "It's the coach's job to figure out the best chance to win."
-
He was 10-11 last year with a 3.03 era? I would hardly call that " hitting a wall " My point is, if we offered him 12mil, why not just match the qualifying offer so if another team were to sign him we would get a free 1st round pick. So then we could have signed Morales and still had a first round pick.
because they took AJ at his word it was either Pirates or retirement
-
Agreed.
They needed to get a right fielder and a 1st Baseman.
Them not getting a first baseman has really bothered me.
I wish they had tried to sign Morneau.
Morneau sucked ! he has become a singles hitter at a corner Infield spot you want & need power from
-
If they would have made a qualifying offer on AJ it would have been 14 mil, sources say we offered him 12. The phils would have swept in and picked him up at 16, giving us a 1st round draft pick in compensation. Then we could have gone out and got Morales for 1st. We would of had to give up a 1st rounder but we would have of had that extra pick to make up for it. What's spending an extra 2 mil if you're already going to offer 12? The Pirates blow me away sometimes. They made huge strides last year, only to sour things in the offseason. Not good business.
NOPE! AJ is the one I agree with the Pirates on Mid 30's pitchers hit the wall & hit it hard & a Phillies fan on twitter hated the signing because the Pirates had really good infield defense & he said the only infielder for Phillies that is above avg. defensively & above avg. range is 2nd Basemen Chase Utley
-
Cool.
Right now I'm a bit bugged at the off-season, was hoping for at least one good signing.
Nutting will not spend money or should I say more money Flabby Sanchez/Andrew Lambo at 1st & Travis Snider/Jose Tabata iin RF till Polanco is ready WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO
-
?
WTF are you talking about? I was agreeing with you.
Take a breath, man. Breeaatttheee.
Oh I thought you were saying I didn't think he was good!I think he is very good given what he has to work with
-
No, that is Jamie Dixon.
Oh Good ****ing God !
-
He did something that hadn't been done in two decades as a Pirates manager.
Um I think I gave him a Huge Compliment !
-
He did something that hadn't been done in two decades as a Pirates manager.
I'd hope not. You act like you are 13.
Umm No this is called no Politically Correct Bull****
-
& for clarity I have a Pens fan on FB that Hates Bylsma & met him at one of the events the Pens have during the season & he said He was one of the nicest People he has ever met. & He seems like a Genuinely good Human. So it is for me about his Inability/Refusal to adjust
-
I've been a Pens fan years before that. Started when the AHL team moved to MBY.
don't mean you ! I mean KPITSNOW & his ilk

Yes he is ! In Carolina he had a Owner who was Bi-Polar ! 1 season he would say spend more & the Next season he would say be at cap floor, Pens spend to the cap! Guy has won as many SC's as Shero did, with nowhere NEAR the talent Shero inherited from Craig Patrick
