Anyone know how well the SREF plume models are?
They did real decent last storm. This is such a dynamic system its going to be awesome watching it evolve here on the coast.
-
Man are the SREF still bullish at this late hour for SE VA or what?
https://www.spc.noaa.gov/exper/sref/srefplumes/
(cant figure out how to link in KORF)

Nice initial band setting up here in SE VA/NE NC. Currently 28degrees with a dusting. Started as a gropel mix
-
33 and light snow in VA Beach. Surprised at how much moisture showed up on radar tonight.
-
How AKQ still has a chance of rain for my zipcode is beyond me. WSW is needed
-
Loving the surface temps (32) and wetbulb right now (29) with that band lifting almost due N from NC into that main snow shield.

Yes you are. Verbatim 6" per 17z RAP...
12z NAM kinda crushed my hopes, but they're back up after a couple of good runs. I have to stop model watching, it's like a drug lol
Whats the link to the RAP? I want my fix haha

One thing we have going for us in HR is the majority of the "snow" will be near/after sunset for better accumulation.

We're both in a sucky spot between to be honest. The band that slams Piedmont will likely dry up some and weaken by the time it reaches us. The coastal gets going too far east and slides quickly out to sea. You're in a better spot than I am for sure, there is a chance you get some of the coastal precip. I believe the rest of extreme NE NC still is in the game for a WSW criteria snow if the coastal develops just a tad sooner, MHX already pulled the trigger on the WSWs.
Also, don't look at the 12z NAM, 0" for both of us while everyone else scores. Even Hatteras gets almost 6". We can hug the 13z HRRRRRRRRRR, dumps about 3-4" and still going at 2am
Man I was rooting for the coastal but the way the 12Z Nam depicts it is a worst case scenario for ORF/ VB. Its like it steals all the moisture right on our doorstep and slams southern OBX.

55mph gust at cape henry buoy...just epic

I can either report thundersnow (unlikely) or transformers exploding, just over 10 thousand without electricity in the city so far. Not surprising since NTU recorded a 47mph gust.
Listening to the scanner there has been about 10 reports of transformers exploding in the last hour.

All snow now Lets get this party started

Did u have rain for a little while? That would be encouraging that the line is shifting east

This mix is going to kill us here in VB.
Yea tell me about it. Its been all rain here near Red Mill, Virginia Beach 23456. Only good thing is I know we will go to snow eventually but hoping before midnight.
-
Rain where I am in 23456. My parents in town center area said it has been all snow with a dusting so far.
-
Odds we get bumped up to a Blizzard Warning? Interesting we have a gale watch right off the coast. Really cant see another scenario of lower pressure, stronger winds or heavier precip than what is being shown.
-
Bay effect flurries now happening in Virginia Beach. Also now that we are in range AKQ has a snow map for the Wed/Thurs event. http://www.weather.gov/akq/winter
My zone forecast has taken any rain wording out for the event, fwiw.

12ZNAM continuing to show around .2 precip for ORF tomorrow
Potential 1/28-1/30 2022 winter storm

2.5” in Southern VA Beach. Still a very fine light snow falling.
