HI LV attached is the American Meteorological Society snowfall map for April 1894 published in May 1894. You can clearly see the 33" line of snow entering Chester County PA - clear weather service evidence to support the Coatesville snowfall for April 1894. This is fun!!

And that is probably the north side of Coatesville.

  2. As someone who grew up in Coatesville, you also have to understand that the surrounding areas are considered Coatesville too so it is possible back then that some totals were just outside the city proper. I grew up much closer to Honey Brook which is 738 elevation (in West Caln) and we always seemed to get higher totals then south of us in the Coatesville "area"

I totally agree. To be honest I only come to the Philly thread for observations during events, most of the model discussion happens in the NYC thread. I know we've broached this subject before but I'd be fine with the merger of NYC/Philly. As a CNJ/South Jersey resident I feel caught between two areas. Just my two cents though.

Same here except I follow the Mid Atlantic thread instead

  4. Wow...I haven't been on the board for awhile (I'm mostly a winter guy) but it is sad to read about all the conflict that has occurred in recent times. I have fond memories of the times at "eastern" (i think that was the name) and then good times when we all came here. Since I haven't posted in almost a year I'm not sure if my vote should count but I still prefer our own forum fwiw. As most others do, I check facebook sites and other weather forums too but I will gladly continue to come here too for as long as the board lasts.

    Happy New Year everyone!!

  5. to be fair, they over forecast every storm and are a hype machine. They use weak meteorology to explain why a storm is going to be the worst case scenario then use the same weak meteorology to explain when they are wrong. They seriously over forecast every storm by at least a few inches, so the weenies follow him because he's the one to get their hopes up. this again is just observed over the past 5 years or so from steve d. his opinion is just as worthy as RW, difference is RW doesn't have a degree.

everyone made some sort of statement about the rough forecasting of this storm.....abc6, nbc10, cbs3, NWS, DT, etc

if you don't like them then that is fine......i don't know how good or bad they are because i am not tracking their results which you should do if you are going to call them out like that......i do know that they are still a bunch of mets (not just steve d) that are putting in time and effort to try and put a forecast out for us and just like many other sources i appreciate them for that
