In the Tampa Bay area, we have become a little too casual. But when you spend time and money to batten down the hatches over and over every year to be spared totally by yet another scary storm and still have some more work to do to unbatten everything after it passes, we get careless. And that is after having to put out a lot of money for repairs and cleanup after a storm does come too close feeling grateful we did whatever we did to batten down the hatches. Maybe 5 years is the threshold where we get lazy.

If NHC is even as good as 2021 I am concerned a little.

I think it's really easy for us to become complacent in this part of the state. I've spent almost all of my 38 years within an hour of Tampa and Irma was the first hurricane I experienced. I think a lot of people have the "I'll believe it when I see it" mentality when it comes to a major hurricane making landfall in the area.

Every year there are 1-2 storms that threaten Tampa, every year they go to the panhandle or the LA/MS area. I’ll believe it 2 days after landfall if a storm actually directly hits Tampa or anywhere within 100 miles of Tampa.

Agreed, we see this play out every year.

Oooh ancient-code.com. Love that site!  Putin’s cloned Scythian horse lord army…what are we going to do about that? We might need weather mods after all. Wipe out their grain stores so they can’t feed the army.

Great, one more thing to worry about.

We've been very lucky around Tampa Bay. VERY lucky.

I came across an abstract for an article published in the AMS Journal of Climate earlier this year that predicts that "Florida’s Gulf Coast is projected to see significant increases in TC activity relative to the long-term historical mean" through the 2030s. I searched the forum to see if there has been any discussion on this but didn't turn up anything but it will be interesting to see if this happens.
