My post eclipse travel story: Spent 10 minutes walking home from the field next to our house. Not many cars. We are officially not on the beaten path

360 degree sunset ni Stowe Vermont
- 7
-
Looking at the clouds building into Stowe VT and thinking of hopping in the car and heading northeast. Looks like lots of high thin clouds which I'm guessing will make for some really cool 360 sunset photos. Or head north looking for clearer skies. Clear blue skies looking NE. Going to make my decision at 1. Thoughts?

Any other school districts going with half days Monday? Our district just announced this afternoon that the kids will get out between 11am high school to 12pm elementary for the safety of the students.
All schools in that totality path in Vermont are closed for the day.

Bring mud boots. Corn fields always have high spots that are drier. You can have a mud moat around yourself.

Anyone in BTV area.. where is a good location for this where there won’t be thousands of people ? I’m heading up Sunday afternoon on a “work” trip. Any ideas would be appreciated
I think there are going to be people everywhere in BTV and the surrounding towns. I would head northeast towards the Fairfax or Cambridge area. The good news is that all the corn fields are bare right now (may be muddy) so you can probably find a sopt without many people. I'm in Stowe and am planning to go out in the middle of one of the corn fields that is walking distance from our house. Boyden Farm Winery in Cambridge might be a good spot - they are surrounded by corn fields: https://www.boydenvalley.com/
If you need to stay in the Burlington area try Colchester High School, Airport Park in Colchester, or maybe one of the golf courses.
Stay on paved roads.

Keep in mind that it is mud season in northern NE and it's probably worth sticking to paved roads unless you have 4wd and good ground clearance. The ruts are real.

3” and nuking at base of ski area. This has to be 30:1 ratio stuff. This is how you get 9” on like 0.3” QPF.
Big Charlie Brown style flakes and very little wind

Flexible brush (https://www.chewy.com/sungrow-food-bowl-water-dispenser/dp/379167) and a hose will blast the junk right off the sump pump. Wear a mask to keep the spray out of your mouth.

What a difference 24 hours makes. We ended up with 3+ feet of water in our yard and 6 feet of water in the basement after Irene. Since then the town of Stowe have upgraded a 3' culvert to a 5' box culvert and replaced a double culvert with a bridge. No flooding and I'm guessing the rainfall surpassed Irene here. There was a lull yesterday afternoon that helped drain some of the water out before it started downpouring again late in the afternoon.

A friend and fellow poster here @j24vt caught some shots of a snowy owl near the MVL airport yesterday.
Today he just send me a cell shot of it back there sitting on the ASOS. He’s going back with the big lens, maybe he’ll share more later.
Pretty cool to have a snowy owl chilling on the ASOS. What’s more NNE than that? Ha.

Crazy. Over this way Mansfield is either having issues or it just didn’t happen, as they didn’t even gust to 50mph at 4,000ft. Something seems off though as MMNV1 has been <10mph sustained the past 3 hours. Feels windier down here.
I'm guessing we had gusts in the 30s here around 7 when I went over to check the Little River (still well within its banks).

I’ve skied Heavenly, Kirkwood and Sierra-at-Tahoe. Fun times! I haven’t hit Squaw or Alpine Meadows. I was looking for more cold smoke type snow and a region that I’ve yet to ski. But the Sierras got absolutely pummeled this year- Something to consider. Thanks!
My ranking of the areas I skied there:
1. Squaw
2. Alpine Meadows
3. Kirkwood
4. Mt Rose
5. Heavenly
My best powder day ever was in March at Squaw

I’ve been to Breckenridge back in Jan of 2013. I was surprised that they didn’t have that much snow. Vail was markedly better. Breck must of had a snow drought that season. I also got altitude sickness. Had to get to an oxygen bar twice. If I were to hit that region, I’d rather hit Vail again. Vail was beautiful and the snow was very good. But I’m sure Breck is one of the least likely places to get rain sitting at 9,600ft. That being said, I would rather try out a new mountain if things line up right.
Here’s me getting “drunk st an oxygen bar at Breck!
