My group ( except for myself) has either never gone out West or only once. So anything out there compared to east coast would be amazing.

Revelstoke sounds amazing, but since their base is very very low, I worry about getting Rained on like what happened to me at Whistler. I’ve dealt with enough rain this winter, here on the LI rainforest. I think Kicking Horse is prolly too intense. Mostly double blacks from Summit. (My sweet spot is single and some double blacks, but that is east coast standards. West coast would be more like blues and single blacks. I’ve skied a handful of out west double blacks (Whistler, Big Sky, Jackson Hole) but that was to say I did it, rather than enjoying myself while doing it.

We’re east coasters who want an out West experience, doesn’t have to be untracked- hellisking-like. A few tourists won’t scare us off. Heck, I’ve skied Vail, but don’t remember any lift lines (must have been a weekday).

What are your thoughts on LL, SV, Banff Vs Telluride vs Snowbird UT, vs Vail.

also, have you ever hit Big white, Fernie, etc?

It would be great to take advantage of the favorable exchange rate we got going in Canada.

    Sorry for the long ramble!

    How about breckenridge?

High altitude, great snow this year, fun town.  Great variety of terrain.

Unfortunately the icy conditions up here have not been good.  I don't know if I've ever seen it this bad.  The glades are straight pond ice, everything not groomed is extremely dangerous.  Even what most skiers would think of as low-angle is slide for life.

A skier died at Jay Peak yesterday when he lost a ski and then slide on the ice into trees.

Up on Mount Mansfield yesterday, a local hiker (non-ski related) was on the Long Trail with his dog when he lost his footing.  He slid through the woods, striking trees and suffered severe trauma and was airlifted by DART (flying out of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital).  This guy was just walking in the woods and it is literally that icy that even a slip on any incline at all will cause a slide for life through the hardwood forests.

    dear god....

    Sounds awful.

You think Tuesday storm will even be enough?

Given the rarity of being able to do it, we will be skinning and skiing in the Holyoke Range this Sun-Mon. Did a lot of work this summer and found some amazing lines with a consistent 400-700 feet of vertical.

    that sounds fun!

  4. Looks like we can only et one day in - Sunday.  Looking at Platty.  Outside shot that we get a 1/2 day in at Bell on the way up...

Any thoughts on when this storm wraps up?  Will need to drive home to NJ Sunday night, and I'm a little concerned about road conditions.

Thanks! That’s exactly what I’m working on!

I'm working on the the same question right now.

Seems like there is some thought it might turn to ice/rain, but I can't really follow the meteorological terminology in the weather threads...

Jay Peak claiming they only lost 10 trails and are "expecting a foot by tomorrow morning". Jay's reporting is the worst but this winter it wouldn't surprise me if they did get 12" tonight.

i'm up at stowe with my family contemplating the drive tomorrow.  Stowe was tough today...guess I'll check int he morning and see what's what.

lol I feel like it's gotten to the point that NO ONE wants to hear it's snowing here, ha.

I know all want to read the BTV AFD about locally 8-10" in the mountains.

This thread is for the melts.

looks like our family trip will miss by 5 days.

Oh well.  Packing the garbage bags and planning to surf Goat in the rain before everything freezes sunday.  Yeehaw!!!!!!!

Ha yeah I don't think we can avoid that one like this last modeled cutter that got beaten down in time.  Friday looks like it would take a miracle to avoid.

Our 6-week pattern of cold and snow is coming to an end...started in October but it was a great run of near record cold 30-day periods and record mountain snow depths.  Time to reshuffle the deck it looks like.

Thats about right too...patterns seem to like to lock for 4-6 weeks but hard to sustain that type of cold for so long.  Like Ginxy posted a few days ago, MPV had its coldest average max temps in 68 years of records between 11/10-12/10 or something like that.  Can't do that forever.  Late fall early winter pattern of yore.  Put it in the sea scrolls.

What a bummer.  Family ski trip to stowe - skiing sat, sun, mon.  Been talking up all the snow up there, all the great tree skiing, and promising ending the day with the Bruce trail > matterhorn.

Oh well - best hope for off trail and natural stuff I suppose is, saturday stays on the warm side and doesn't rain too long.  Looks like everything will freeze by Sunday.

Knew it couldn't last, but was hoping to would't turn until X-mas.

Heck even Jiminy Peak in Mass has had a 6-pack for like 15 years...those have been around for a while.  The 8-pack is brand new.  Used to just be 8-person gondolas, now a chairlifts.

    And heated to boot...

Ha she's referring to the 7-foot tall middle finger someone put in their front yard up here flipping off the town of Richmond, VT. It's been in the news.  Guy had a garage project permit rejected by the town so he made a giant middle finger and stuck it by the road.  It's been almost a tourist attraction the past two weeks, lol.

That's funny!  thought he was giving me the finger!

  12. F-ing weather anxiety is nearly killing me.

All this snow up north....had one day in the pokes so far.  Had a chance to ski S-Vt two weekends ago, and work screwed it up last minute.  Scheduled to ski this weekend in the cats, but looks like a rain out.

Skiing Stowe 12/22-24, and absolutely freaking out about the forecasts.  Sounds like they get rain this weekend, and it warms up the days following.  Very concerned the woods and natural trails will be shit.  really was looking forward to taking my kids all over that mountain - as a family we've been there once, when they were only 20% open, but I've skied it a bunch.

Being a NE skier living in NJ is not for the feint of heart.
