Let the kids enjoy the snow. I have no problem with a snow day
Unfortunately, it will be a synchronized remote day where instruction will be in real time via video… it’s still safer.

that's what's funny-most businesses also have people commuting in from places far away do they close? No. Granted people can work remotely these days but in the past you were expected to get into the office unless it was truly awful/impassable.
It’s mostly because of school buses and the risks associated with some of our most at risk students. It’s definitely less about teacher commutes. Plus a situation like this is a scheduling nightmare with low attendance rates and little learning happening.

My wife who is an Art teacher with the DOE told me that she heard that schools might be closed tomorrow and everyone will be doing remote teaching.
She will find out more later
I’ve been teaching for 23 years and I’ll probably hear from your wife before my actual school. It’s usually a foot plus for a “snow day” but seeing as how those no longer exist maybe we have a shot at remote. NYC already send out hazardous travel alerts.

Ugh. I think I have COVID again, luckily haven’t had it in like 18 months. But I’m fairly sure I have it right now, deep chesty cough with a lot of pain. Feel like el crapola.
Time for some movies and video games .
I just got it the second time in 3 months… and I’m the sickest I’ve ever been with it. This is like super Covid (unfortunately I’m on round 4). Feel better soon.

Solid cloud cover. Steady small dendrites with larger ones starting to mix in. Ozone Park Queens.

Because schools are generally close to where you live in urban areas and people can walk to them also. Up by me in Dutchess county most school systems cover large areas so it's a problem with buses driving in snow or ice. We had about 3 inches last storm and schools were closed. It's not uncommon in more rural areas. There are normally 5 days allotted every winter for snow days.
NYC technically doesn’t have a set criteria for closing. We close mainly over 12 inches, or when the city deems it too dangerous. But with snow and ice it has a lot to do with yellow busing. If buses cannot run they will now shift to remote.

Schools also close because they rely on state funding which is often determined by attendance. If they suspect that attendance will be extremely low, they will take a funding hit for the day/days. If they close for inclement weather (which is built into their calendar) they get full funding. NYC no longer builds snow days into the calendar. All closures now revert to remote instruction, where we are accountable for attention.
