Elliott's long range forecast released last night was not surprising but certainly discouraging - he sees a chance for a single event late next week that would have a ceiling of a few/several inches if everything worked out perfectly. After a couple of cold days next weekend, he's issuing a spring fever alert for much of February. Basically a full-blown torch for at least a few weeks.

Sitting at 3.3" for the season...

NYC has 0.0” snow so I guess we are lucky. :D

Rochester - ROCHESTER - has only a trace in January and 9” all season.

Like I posted a bit ago, where the hell is the snow?

It’s probably because the mid Atlantic and NE are warming faster than any other region on earth.

Yes, and this explains a lot as well:

  • Global ocean heat content (OHC) hit a record high: The upper ocean heat content, which addresses the amount of heat stored in the upper 2,000 meters of the ocean, was record high in 2022, surpassing the previous record set in 2021. The four highest OHCs have all occurred in the last four years (2019-2022).

This deserves a bump…..

Lots of well below normal snow years that happened several decades ago.

What happened in 1900, 1919 & 1931 to cause those terrible snow years?

We just had an above normal snow year at MDT in 2021…..

Up & down snow years are nothing new…

The below clearly shows the up and down decades since the 1890's

I know we’re all complaining about no snow, but that is really not a great indicator of climate change. My comment was more to show the irrefutable evidence that the ocean is way warmer than it used to be and to think that has no effect on climate is crazy.

Also, The 12z GFS is bringing back the more significant storm potential for next Sunday.
This run is front end thump of snow especially for the western half of CTP, but the potential is there.

they always push the snows and cold further back and we look at them. saying its only a week away 2 days later it shows a app or lake cutter and its 50 and rain vs 25 and snow or a mix

The snow is all out west this year as record amounts in CA, AZ and UT.  I’m happy I at least was able to experience over a foot in October in Park City UT, Jackson WY and West Yellowstone MT when visiting.  Happy for them as heavy precip is putting a serious dent in their drought. Salt Lake had been bone dry when we were out.
