Here comes the 12th event on the gfs

Feeling the block

That’s a wild set up , you can see that huge ocean system With tropical origins come up off se Canada and retro A tad right as the new system is coming under the Block . I’m impressed it’s even semi consistent with all the moving parts

NNE is going thru quite the fun period 5 straight cutters then hopefully snows . That’s sorta climo for us this early but they are getting skunked lately in The mountains , for real .

It’s still early though.  Is it amazing?  No, but it’s holding the “wintry early season at a ski area” vibe.  At least it’s white.

The Mansfield Stake is at 10”.  Hovering either side of average past week.  It’s certainly no dumpster fire (yet).

I just loathe repeating  early winter rains in the mountains

I’d have thought the average stake depth would be higher by now. Interesting to see that while this pattern is annoying, it’s really not that crazy. I remember plenty of seasons where coverage by mid December was thin - and plenty of snowpacks wiped around the holidays only to pretty much start fresh in January. But it’s easy to forget those and only think of the seasons when we were skiing glades by Thanksgiving

Yup, everyone (myself included) loves to “rush” this time of year climo-wise… like it should be deep winter.  It really isn’t though.

Normal highs at 1500ft are still above freezing (35F) right now.  Places like BTV and valleys down in CNE/SNE are still 40F or higher average maxes.

Still a few inches on the ground here. Stuff had sticking power with 5” SWE in my core sample. We had 40s and 50s for almost 2 weeks straight. Had snow on ground from Nov 16-today. I’m a snowfall rates guy so dont really care about snow depth unless it’s extreme 3’+. It snowed a few hours after this, but this was close to the max depth.
