My Tampa community leaders just got the news that the hurricane might come in this direction so I am seeing lots of text alerts urging citizens in low lying areas to evacuate..  I suspect much of this will fall on deaf ears.  It’s a nice day out and people are more focused on the Bucs game

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn’s warning was even starker. Standing outside City Hall last year, he described what would happen if a hurricane as small as a category 3 with 110 mph to 130 mph winds hit downtown.

“Where you’re standing now would be 15 feet under water,” he said

Video simulations of hurricanes that strafed Florida but missed Tampa Bay look like an epic game of dodgeball.

“It’s like we’re in this sweet spot. It’s like we’re blessed somehow, protected,” said Allison Yeh, a planner for Hillsborough County in Tampa.

The last direct hit from a category 3 in 1921 left the area in ruins, but few people lived there then.

Getting to the point the main thread is getting confusing… 2 post says Tampa doom and gloom, than the next Tampa completely safe, than doom and gloom and than 2 more saying it’s gonna completely miss and go way west.

When that happens it usually means a generic gusty rainstorm is most likely outcome

You can feel Storm Mode lurking out there

Can you all dial back the OMG This is so bad posts and try to talk logically. The storm is still days away from landfall, let it play out. Heed your local evac orders, follow NHC.

We on staff will be hiding posts that don't add to the topic.

Thanks,

Management

That’s because the board is littered with shit posters and wishcasters. You can tell whatever trend is bad for Tampa, that’s what some will point to — whether it be east or west.

The people who deny any possibility of something bad happening in Tampa are pretty annoying too.

They have past history/climo to help support them.  But climo loses sometimes.

This is as dicey of a situation as you can get for Tampa.  I still think it comes in just south but Jesus its gonna be close.

Interesting take.  If it's going to miss Tampa it seems like the higher probability would be west, but we're at the mercy of the models so what looks more likely one day can become less likely the next.
