Morning thoughts…

It will be partly sunny and warm. A cold front will bring strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon or evening to many parts of the region. High temperatures will likely reach the middle and upper 70s in much of the region. Likely high temperatures around the region include:

New York City (Central Park): 75°

Newark: 78°

Philadelphia: 81°

Somewhat cooler air will follow the frontal passage for tomorrow through Thursday.

Normals:

New York City: 30-Year: 71.4°; 15-Year: 72.3°

Newark: 30-Year: 72.6°; 15-Year: 73.5°

Philadelphia: 30-Year: 74.4°; 15-Year: 75.1°

LGA and NYC still haven’t reached 80° yet. So the first 80° day is a month late. This much onshore flow is pretty unusual for our area in May. The purple colors below are near record levels of easterly flow for May.

We should see a nice old school wide spread wind event later today. I’m not saying the D word but a nice MCS with locally damaging winds. I think most places city west will see gusts to at least 40mph which should blow the pollen around!

Yes I am definitely looking forward to some excitement out here around 4-5pm.

Never in my life have I seen this - My kids school just called and are dismissing early based on the severe weather forecasts.  We are a WEAK people, pathetic.

That's bizarre given the severe, if it occurs, won't even happen until after 3PM

Check out the post just before your’s.  Do you recall seeing a map like that for this region?  The atmosphere is quite juiced today so this is actually a good call IMO.

Talk to some folks in Orange County,ny, they might think differently.

On November 16, 1989, a wind gust at 12:05 PM blew down the free standing cafeteria wall at the East Coldenham Elementary School near Newburg, NY. Nine students were killed. The event was called a tornado, but the only rotation seen in the area was a dust swirl in the parking lot. Professor Fujita's detailed survey of the entire path showed only evidence of microbursts. It exists on official records as a tornado, the deadliest F1 "tornado" in history.
