You can have blizzard conditions on just a few inches of snow, blizzard is for winds. winter storm is for snow amounts

there is no accumulation criteria for Blizzard warning.

I think the conflating of the two is because of a lot of our early associations with the word "blizzard". You hear that mentioned around and you immediately think like Blizzard of 96' or 79'. Thus, you think deep snow goes with "blizzard"! That's why a 3-inch blizzard, while true via scientific definition, doesn't naturally jive with that association...it's weird!!

Been busy with work and haven't really tracked the latest trends. Not sure how I feel about the NAMs or even the Euro over this way. Gut still says this is mostly rain for my yard with maybe a quick shot of snow at the end and maybe a coating. Looking pretty good now for places along and esp NW of I-95.

Beautiful out right now. Heading out to put some fertilizer on the grass so the rain can soak it in.

You can have blizzard conditions without any snow falling at all. It is all about visibility.

 from LWX afternoon disco:

The combination of moderate to heavy snowfall and very high
winds could produce localized near blizzard conditions tomorrow
morning, making conditions very hazardous for travel. A Blizzard
Warning was considered, but confidence wasn`t high enough in the
quarter mile visibility requirement being met for three hours
straight. Brief snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour can`t be
ruled out for within the aforementioned intense frontogenetic
snowfall band tomorrow morning. The greatest opportunity for
this to occur in the metro areas would be between 8 and 11 AM.
Steady snow will gradually wind down from west to east during
the early to middle portions of tomorrow afternoon.
