Looks like it's going to be another tough summer for 90s. I noticed the NWS tweeted the temperature at their office was 82 at 1:49 p.m. The 5-minute average temperature at KPIT at 1:51 p.m., basically centered on the point measurement shared by the NWS, was 80F. I wouldn't expect the NWS office to be two degrees warmer than the airport, being just about a mile away at similar elevation in a shady suburban neighborhood versus an open airport site loaded with asphalt tarmac. Most of our 90s are like 90, 91, so if the ASOS is running a couple degrees too cool, I'd expect a lot of days topping out at 88 or 89 again. Hard to reach 90 if the actually air temperature needs to reach 92 to register that number.

Local news is really hyping up today's weather.

I guess the NWS agrees. I almost went to Columbiana Ohio to golf today glad i didn't. They are getting crushed with rain but looks like we may get the severe storms instead of the prolonged rain.

Next week looking hotter and hotter. Might @Ahoffget his first 90 early this year?

Probably far too early.  In the last 25 years the earliest we've hit 90 was May 27th in 2012.  1996 was the last year we hit 90 before the 20th.

The drier look though would be great.  But seems tough to not get rain in that kind of set up, but If we can get a few sunny days and warm temps it would be perfect.

That’s the real problem is this pattern is funneling warm air up from the gulf, but if the ridge axis sets up where you want it to, I think we can squeeze out a mostly rain-free period. I think 90 is a reach but it’s within the range of plausible solutions from what I’ve seen on the models and ensembles. Especially the Canadian, but that might be overblown.

The other weird thing is, as much of a warm month as May was in the 2010s, we have not set a daily record high on any day in May since 1993.

That surprises me as well with how warm some Mays have been.

Looks like the heat has been squashed.  Just more seasonably warm now, but still if we get sunny days in the 70s that would be perfect.

Western Atlantic troughing pushes your ridge too far west to make it hot here. Still, slightly above normal temps with sun would be a good break from this pattern. Plenty of time still for big heat if you want it.

You don't have to call it my ridge.  I'm not rooting for any major heat at this point, just want some dry weather.  If that comes with low 60s or low 90s, I don't care.  Just stop raining!

I agree. Just eliminate the extremes. Let's get some constant 70+ degree days with fronts twice a week with 4 or 5 days of dry weather instead of every other day we get a new system with precip.

May need to look at next week for some real heat.  Weather Channel has Friday-Sunday mid-upper 80s, of course they did for weekend too at one time, lol.

Sure, it’s the operational CMC at 234 hours, but:
