Steep south facing road cuts going bare despite below freezing temps throughout. This is the time of year when south facing aspects really start to struggle holding onto snow. Western slopes of wide open valleys get long duration solar energy. The steep eastern slopes see a lot of shadow and are a much colder environment. Ya it’s great for the mtb trails on the west slope cause it dries quick all spring and summer but cranmore melts out fast. It’s not one of those spots that has feet of snow left on closing day. There have been some pretty warm days too. I know it was a long time ago to mention this but yes they did get at least a couple inches of sleet even down in E Lyme. Up here there was just enough snow mixed with the sleet to give it a white color to refuse the sunlight. The piles from plowing became pure ice mounds and are treacherous to walk on.
