I'm learnin' folks...give me time.

Just read and stop asking so many question lol

More statements coming right up...lol But seriously I can't promise to completely stop asking questions altogether--that's not in my nature. But I'm gonna be more selective...I feel terrible about not Googling somethings first. Will work on that...

P.S. Not gonna lie hearing posting advice from you is uh...kinda funny, lol

I mainly stick to this thread and occasionally the Discob one. I am Dyslexic and quite possibly ADHD. I think in 3D and on a daily basis forget any info I tried to understand. I am not book smart and I suck in Math. So in most threads here I feel pretty stupid. But I need a place to talk about my geek passion for weather. I am not saying all this to get sympathy am just saying we all tick differently.

Somewhere, off in the distance, irony has quietly died!

We certainly do. Btw, sympathy is automatic for sucking in math...trust me I have PTMD post traumatic math disorder  from high school, lol. But as you said, this is one place to snow geek out...not too many places outside of here to do that!

There are free classes at local NWS offices. I took the Spotter training and I know there is a Winter Weather and Severe Weather training. If you have not already I recommend checking into them.

Randy/all,

Anyone else receive an email about registering the americanwx domain in China?

Below is the text of the email I just received...

-----  Begin Text --------

(Please kindly forward this to your CEO, because this is urgent. If you believe this has been sent to you in error, please ignore it. Thanks)
Dear CEO,
We are the domain name registration service company in Shanghai, China. On February 18, 2022, we received an application from Hongxiang Ltd requested "americanwx" as their internet keyword and China (CN) domain names (americanwx.cn, americanwx.com.cn, americanwx.net.cn, americanwx.org.cn). But after checking it, we find this name conflict with your company name or trademark. In order to deal with this matter better, it's necessary to send email to you and confirm whether this company is your distributor or business partner in China?

Best Regards

All this complaining about the wind.  I like the wind.  The noise through the forest, the rattling of the shutters outside the window.  And in the case of a strong storm force wind from the due south, the weather stripping under the front door that sounds like a child playing a kazoo very badly! :D

Only when it gets ridiculous say like that scene in Superman II, that is too much.

What made me think of this ridiculous clip was a video I saw of the storm over in the United Kingdom of people walking and falling over.  Sensationalized press throwing numbers like 122mph winds (obviously a peak reading on the immediate coast).  WS dumps do reveal a widespread event with frequent 60-70 mph gusts occurring in the more urban populated areas.  Similar to the wind event we had here March 02, 2018.

Bring the wind!  Without it, weather cannot change.  And change is what we need.  So sick of this sunshine and rainbows crap! :P

Well the first rule of unsolicited email is you don't bother reading it!  (SHIFT+DEL in Outlook) to bypass deleted folder and delete permanently.  Same goes for unknown callerID callers...

Just Google the phone number in the email!

I did and it's a list a mile long...

https://simonerescio.it/en/2016/08/scam-from-china-registry-why-stupid-can-ignore

Same with the so called "sextortion" emails that people get.  They open with a diatribe about how you've been nasty looking at porn and they know because they claim they've been spying on you with a trojan that was installed months ago, etc.  They claim they will share videos of your pleasures with all your colleagues, et-al.  To prevent this they ask for payment in the form of crypto currency which ranges anywhere from $400 to over $2000 USD!

Easy to bust those too as they have their BTC wallet (needed to send funds to) and (you guessed it) you can Google that and not only see that it's on an abuse list but also see how many victims have actually fallen for the scam and paid up!

Then you have these phishing emails that look official with actual company websites and they may be an invoice request or similar correspondence.  A link takes you to another page that looks familiar asking for your Office 365 email and password.  That is totally bogus and if you ever surrender your credentials to such a site you're giving away access to whatever you have on Office 365!  This is why more organizations are using One Time Password (OTP) tokens to prevent credential theft.

It's absolutely insane the level that these scammer scumbags go to take advantage of others that make an honest living.

That said, the easiest way to find a scam is Google.  Just Google one of the phone numbers in the email.
