I'm going to try to keep this updated weekly through the season, hopefully every Monday. Just going to do two locations per NWS office and three Ontario locations.

Sounds good to me.

Nice idea. If you wanted to add a little highlight to this, you could quickly throw this into an excel spreadsheet and graph/plot the data and the departures. It would be another neat way to show the data.

Ohhh I was paying attention....I just didn't have any precip during my shift....precip fell apart when it hit Mich. I usually check current conds every 10 mins....more when weather dictates....there are times when I'm issuing special obs every few mins. Below is what I seen.

Nice! That sure looks like a fun job.

And I'm referring to the MSN obs by the way. They're usually pretty good, there's times during mixed precip events where they update the precip type every 5 minutes. That's why I was disappointed no one got a flake into the obs :lol:

Had a trace of snow here at KDTW for Thursday, November 25th....I'm sure stebo will update tomorrow during his shift if he sees anything during his shift or from the previous obs, but I will double check the obs and on here when I am on shift tomorrow....between the two of us we have your back here at KDTW.

Will have a trace of snow for KDTW for Friday, November 26th.... I just began -SN a few minutes ago and have 8SM.

There already was a trace from flurries throughout the day. Actually, DTW has had a T on Nov 5, 24, 25, 26 and probably 27. Unfortunately, all these traces just add up to...a trace. But, as Ive been saying, it will change very soon :)

Yeah I heard him mention that on the noon news broadcast. Apparently the NWS counts sleet accumulation as snow. To me that's almost like counting hail as snow. Doesn't make too much sense but that's the way it is I guess.

Yep, sleet is counted as snow. I believe it started circa 1950. Detroit had a sleet storm drop 1.4" of sleet and 0.4" of snow on January 1, 1948 (along with a ton of zr), and when I looked it up I just saw 1.8" for the day but could never figure out why my numbers were coming out wrong. I was getting a season total for 1947-48 of 28.0", not the officially listed 26.6". I later saw a microfilm copy of the month, and it says right on there, "1.4" fell as sleet", so back then they didnt count that. Today if that same scenario occurred, it would simply say "1.8"" in the Snow column.

Duluth's 27.3" total is a bit deceiving. If you are lakeside the season total so far is about 4" while the NWS is inland so there is a much higher total. I wish they would track both of them officially but they don't.

Is DLH's official station in an area that would typically, even in mid-winter, receive the most snow in the region? I know thats how Marquette in the U.P. of MI is (MQT is in Negaunee Twp, the actual city of Marquette gets a lot less than the official tally shows). It would be like if Detroit kept its totals at White Lake instead of DTW. Its funny that NWS's in already snowy regions have their biggest station in the snowiest place of the entire region lol.

The Duluth station is in an area that does receive more snow for this region. Further up the north shore on the higher ridges there are places that get more than Duluth's site. I just don't understand why they can't keep track in 2 different locations. One by the lake and one away from it. It really would be nice. Maybe they already do but they never make the other measurements public knowledge. Who knows.
